MOTORCYCLES ALERT 1

THEY ARE OUT THERE SO WATCH WHAT YOUR DOING PLEASE!
Every year some stupid driver runs over someone on a motorcycle because they don't care to pay attention. Cell phones and the radio are huge distractions so keep it to a minimum. Last week a biker got smeared across the pavement because some high school little bitch was doing her makeup while driving. She got a dented car and he got killed. They closed the road for 4 blocks around to clean up the blood and guts.
Warm weather means bikers are everywhere. Please be mindful!

4 blocks to clean it up? Around here we just close off a hundred or so feet and throw em into biohazard bags
Still, avoid hitting bikers

I think the onus is more on the rider to ensure they are seen. I explain it like this, when driving a truck, you assume other road users see you. When riding a motorbike , you assume your invisible, in the sense that you have to ensure that they see you yourself, by flashing your lights, blipping the throttle, sitting in their mirrors untill they turn their head to see you etc.

They also piss of the fucking neighbors.
I live in a town (Milwaukee) with a ton of Harleys. I also live in an urban/nightlife area with a heavy concentration of bars.
After the two-hundredth Harley with roaring fucking exhaust goes by my house at three in the morning, I'm often tempted to throw beer bottles out the window at passing motorcyclists.
It's fucking obnoxious. If your preferred method of transportation is so inherently dangerous that you can only make it safe to yourself by annoying the fuck out of anyone in a five-block radius, then you need to re-think how you travel.

It takes a special kind of attention seeking asshole to have loud pipes. Stupid, selfish attention whores.

Awareness is good
But I don't think loud pipes do much but annoy others who aren't into bikes.
Riding like you're invisible is good advice, but I don't really see how you can say that it's up to the rider to make sure they are seen. Yes, try to be as visible as possible, but there is really no way to make sure that others see you (and even if they do, many still don't care, like those dumbasses that tailgate motorcycles. Don't they realize that a 500 lb bike will stop much, much faster than your 2000lb car?).
Being a motorcyclist is awesome, but being among the smallest vehicles on the road (and not to mention the stigma/dislike many people have for them) has its drawbacks.
Ride safe

While pulling onto an on ramp some dumbfuck on a bike decided that it might be good fun to speed and weave around cars in the name of "lol'z 4 allz".
I had no idea that he was even there until he smashed into the side of my car door. next thing I knew he was rolling through the grass side of the hwy and his bike was sliding down the road.
I parked, and after the initial "what the fuck" moment, sprinted over to him to make sure he was alright. I think he hit his head because he was seizing up, completely unconscious, and of course, not wearing a helmet. He was lucky to have landed in the grass. I was lucky to have witnesses to tell the cops that he was driving like a retarded chimpanzee with bad depth perception.

yeah thats kind of scary. i've ridden pretty dangerously before. The bike just eggs you on though. its not like driving a car, the enginge just loves being wound up and its like opening up a portal. like in starwars when they are like 'warp speed' ... and the damn things have so much power, at the flick of a wrist. and dragging your knees on a corner is a a bit of + at the same time.

My uncle died on a motorcycle when i was ~2, So my mom was naturally paranoid and never let us even consider riding a motorcycle. I always make sure to give bikes plenty of distance because they are very vulnerable when hit.
a friend told me after he went down on his bike that virtually everyone will fall down with the bike at least once in the first year (on their own account). He was coming to a stop and somehow biffed it. Ever since he told me that I've been extra cautious when coming to stops around bikes.
in california it's crazy, cause they allow riding your bike between traffic in rush hour. it was nuts when you'd just see a guy zoomin by in grid locked traffic.

Every year some biker does an illegal move to try to get around traffic and gets squished here.
I'm careful, however motorcyclists need to take precautions into their own hands a little more. It's not my responsibility to make sure he's keeping a safe distance away from me. That should be the biker's job to be extra cautious on the road.
We've got this biking event called Street Vibrations, where half of the bikers don't wear helmets, and ride in pairs illegally.
Now I never tailgate bikers, nor do I do anything to put them in danger, but when you're going 80mph on a freeway making lane changes without even signalling (just because you can lean), don't expect me to get out of the way or give special attention to the bike, if he's coming up on my ass and I am bout to switch into a lane that I've signalled to switch in, don't try to pass me at 80mph on the right, I won't stop moving over.
