Help ID Please... Strange TN species
    #14349084 - 04/25/11 01:37 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hello all, I have lived in tn for a while now and have seen what little we have growing here in terms of the psilocybe family, however I have come across something today that I cannot Identify. I will post pics later, but I have found multiple mushrooms growing out of mulch nearby. They are already sun dried but are tannish/brown caps that seem to have turned a greenish blue upon drying. They are very obviously green/blue. The biggest are about half an inch across, and maybe 2 and a half inches tall. They have dark black gills and spores. I haven't taken a spore print but the spore deposit on the stem is black. There is no bluing on the stem. They are growing out of mulch. The temperature has been fluctuating in the 70's and 80's. It has been very rainy and humid. I will post pics as soon as I get home. Any one have any Idea's of what these may be?

Pics or it didn't happen.

Maybe Psathyrella or Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata or Lacrymaria velutina.

I have very horrible quality pics right now but I am running spore prints at the moment and will take pics with a digital when I get home tonight. It is hard to see any blue in these pictures but There is deffinate greyish green/blue on these. They are especially blue where the cap curls in towards the gills. They have little lines running down them like some inky caps do. almost umbrella like.

Like I said, these pics are of horrible quality but I will upload better ones with more focus on the color and gills as soon as I can. I will try to find more of these little guys as soon as possible but for now this is all I could find. They were growing in very small patches of no more than 4 or 5. A few were growing on their own near by. There is a pronounced nipple on all of them. They look alot like umbrella caps but have definitive bluing. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Does anyone know if that oakridge strain is actually abundant or if that was just a random lucky find? I was really hoping to find something other than gymnopilus sp this year.

What do you mean? I thought that someone found a strain of cubensis near oak ridge TN? I could swear I have seen someone selling spores under that story or something. Please correct me if I am wrong though...

No, that's true. I thought you intended to "hunt the Oakridge strain", which isn't happening, because even if you find Psilocybe cubensis in that location they wouldn't be the "Oakridge strain".
Misunderstanding on my part, though. My bad.
