An Unidentified Gymno Collection from Florida (PICS)

Hey shroomers,

Here are some pic's of some Florida Gymnopilus' i found growing in the woodchips, in the bushes with sprinkler system.

I'm not sure of their exact identity but i do know that they must belong to the Gymnopilus complex.

They reminded me of mycorhizzal Cortinarius bolaris: http://www.grzyby.pl/gatunki/Cortinarius_bolaris.htm
but then I saw that they're really growing directly from wood chips.

Hi zeronio, well i have the book for identifying Gymnopilus mushrooms and there are over 170 different species of Gymnopilus listed in it. It is a great read, but still it is tremendously frustrating to seperate them all.

Hey cube421,

I do not believe that these Gymnopilus mushrooms pictured had any psychoactive properties, but there are several of it's cousins in the complex of Gymnopilus that do in fact contain chemicals of which are psychoactive, some of those species are; Gymnopilus luteifolius, Gymnopilus aeruginosus and Gymnopilus spectabilis.

G. spectabilis is the one nicknamed the Big Laughing Jim Mushroom.
