U.S. to regulate electronic cigarettes as tobacco
– Mon Apr 25, 5:00 pm ET
CHICAGO (Reuters) – The government said on Monday it plans to regulate electronic cigarettes as tobacco products. The Food and Drug Administration's announcement came after the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit issued a decision which said that electronic cigarettes are not drugs or devices unless they are marketed for therapeutic purposes. In 2009, the FDA was given the authority to regulate tobacco products that are not drugs or devices. Electronic cigarettes, marketed under names such as NJOY, mimic the act of smoking and include nicotine, but do not emit the same type of odor or ash. In December, three judges from the appellate court ruled that the FDA could regulate the products as tobacco products and not as drugs. They also said that the FDA could not block the import of such products, giving Sottera Inc the ability to start importing its NJOY goods. The FDA said in a notice posted on its website that it is working on a strategy to regulate products such as electronic cigarettes, which are not subject to pre-market review requirements, as tobacco products. The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids said on Monday that it was disappointed the U.S. government would not appeal the federal appeals court ruling. That group said the ruling opened a loophole that lets manufacturers add nicotine to products, bypassing the regulations that traditionally apply to smoking cessation medications and other non-tobacco products that include nicotine. A group that represents companies that make such products, the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association, could not be immediately reached for comment. Interesting article on Al Gore's news site. Approved by the FDA, a class II implantable device is a "implantable radiofrequency transponder system for patient identification and health information." This sort of device would be implanted in most, if not all of people who opt to become covered by the public health care option.
Not too far away actually. Not for location, though implantable radiofrequency transponder could clearly give them the ability to ping your location.

At least they're not banning them outright like they were going to.

I really like smoking the E cig. Though mine broke. Dunno if it was cheap or I refilled it wrong. I smoked it all day long. The cartridges last a long time. All you pot heads would love a THC E-cig!

E-cigs have a limited lifespan. The average e-cig battery is only meant to last a few months and the atomizers are only meant to last 20-60 days. It's still cheaper than smoking tobacco, at least here on the West Coast.

Hmm, if you could find a source for new/empty cartridges, this would be possible to DIY. THC extraction, soak/fill the cartridge, and smoke. Like a fancy, discrete vaporizer

The thing is that these E cigs don't have any tobacco in them. Its nicotine mostly from tomatoes. So how can you regulate it as something its not?
This is just big Tobacco trying to get there way again. First they tried banning them now there trying to control them.
Im so sick at how this world is run.
