Short fat, early vieling
    #14348705 - 04/25/11 11:44 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

im getting almost all short fat fruits with early veiling. The biggest fruits are 2-3 inches tall. I'm wondering will this affect my yield? Is one of these short fat fruits the same potency as a tall normal one? or am i losing yield?

Also what can i do to fix this. I started misting more(i think it dried out cause i used a heating pad:frown:) and do fanning at least 4 times a day, both heavily. i don't have thermometers or hygrometers. But there is considerable condensation, and the surface of the substrate looks moist. So far this is the first flush im looking at, and that has this problem, but the budding fruits, some are tearing early too.

Thanks.

depends on how solid they are.
at what temps are you fruiting?

im fruiting at room temperature 67-72 F. i poured some water from the sides of the casing so it reaches the bottom and tilted it to spread the water around, so hopefully that will help the substrate rehydrate and absorb water. It's not sitting in any noticeable amount of water though, just very wet on the bottom now, and if tilted to a corner water collects to about an inch.

The fruits feel pretty firm, but not much more than any other fresh white button mushroom. and when bruised(i picked some aborts and some of the early veilers) they turn very very blue.

earlier the casing was getting a lot of indirect sunlight and some direct sunlight, maybe that had something to do with it? as of now its in a room with normal lights and one window with very indirect sunlight.

if the surface looks moist why did you pour water on it?
i'm guessing atp that your problem is a saturated sub,
which will cause little fruits.
take it off the heating pad and dont mist it for a few days.
that should allow it to dry out.

the surface was moist cause i just misted it, and i poured water underneath the casing. It was dried out from before when i had a heating pad (i suspect).

is this a monotub? because mono's need very little maintenance.
i rarely mist mine, i've had a few that i only misted once,
after i late cased them. so, if your misting daily
or more, i'm still guessing too wet a substrate, which
will cause the very same issue your seeing.
but then, it could be the ms lotto. or the lower temps,
which will cause short, fat fruits with (many say) higher
potency.

how deep is your sub? ive had fruits like this caused by using less than 2 inch sub depth

the substrate is 2 inches maybe slightly less. You might be right, but the substrate is bulk substrate(grain spawned to compost).
