i cant quite get above 73 degreesF in my incubator, and my humidity is peaking at 60%, is it ok to just go ahead and mix the verm and put it into the chamber and use it to raise the humidity? ..

I feel like perlite would work better at raising humidity than would verm..

what kind of jars did u knock up? why are u trying to boost humidity in an incubator? why are you using an incubator? dont you know its almost summer time?
whats the temp in your house? sit your jars on a clean shelf/in a clean drawer/in a clean cupboard and let them do their thang

its not really an incubator, its the fruiting chamber im going to be using..i want to get the temp up to 80, and at least 85 to 90% humidity..if i did the perlite, would i need to re sterilize it before i droped the cakes? the jars are just regular canning jars, 1 pint..6 of em with brown rice flour rye flour and vermiculite..inoculated each jar with at least a CC each, didnt use a glovebox tho, having issues with the one i made, but i sterilized in a clean room, little air flow at all, flame sterilized the needles, then alcohol, alcohol on the injection point, then shot it up, sterilized again, put the tape over the holes, sterilized again, and sterilized the foil i put over each jar,

just rinse the perlite REALLY thoroughly and drain off excess water, sit the lids of ur jars evenly spaced through your FC ontop of you perlite layer (3-5 inches deep), then put your fully colonized brf cakes ontop of the lids..... mist 2-4 times daily, fan after misting each time. shld be fine

awesome, thanks ..and another question if i may, how fragil are these things before fully colonized? is moving them around to put the perlite in the chamber for the humidity bad for them? or is it ok..ive looked for the answer thru the forum but couldnt find it

huh? you took your cakes out of the jars already? they should be 100% colonized before you even open the jar....

you dont need humidity during colonization....thats after you fruit
also 73 degree's is perfectly fine for colonization...

you can have some jars show contam's in as little as 3 days, and it can wait til almost fully colonized...never know when it'll show its ugly lil face.

i know with agar sometimes when you get mold your able to save some of the mycillium, is this the case with cakes as well or are they busted once the signs show?

thats the entire purpose of agar, to transfer away from contam's
with cakes once its there you're done, toss and start over..
