two weeks with no myc. growth. failure?
    #14348282 - 04/25/11 10:08 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I started 10 jars with a B+ strain from sporeworks, and after two weeks there has been no myc. growth. The only thing I can think of is that i dropped the jars (eeeekkk...i  know :frown:=( ) and the spores got mixed up? I originally inoculated them against the glass, but could they still be growing and just inside because they got mixed up?

Did you shake the syringe to distibute the spores?  I know sporeworks is a very reliable vendor and ususally dont hear about things like this from there product.  2 weeks is quite some time to see growth.  Give it another couple days and if you still see no growth contact sporeworks and tell them you put the syringe under a microscope and failed to see any spores.  They will replace the syringe and give you  a chance to try again

Another question: How hot were the jars when you inoculated them? If they were too hot, you killed the spores. Dropping jars doesn't help of course but I feel like I've done that a few times and things still went ok.

Well if you don't see anything growing at all you could always try putting some fresh spores in again. I've had to do this before because of some dud spores I had.

i agree sporeworks is a very reputable vendor but I must say I've recieved several(more then 5) diff syringes, that grew nothing at all...

idk it could of been something i've done, but i've never had a bunk spore from ralph's, a few that were contam'd but were always replaced...

if there is no contaminates growing you shouldn't have to re sterilize..just shoot up with more spores..

One time it took me nearly 20 days to get the first sign of mycelium, after that it got rapidly white allover.

IMO, something would tell me somethings is still off. I have heard so many people out there saying they have had to wait 2-3 weeks to see growth but i can honestly say i have always seen growth within the first 10 days on everything i have worked with.

Edit***  To spore works for giving him another shot.

if you have not opened the jars.

and are confident your innoculant is clean, then ya you can shoot some more spores into the same jars.

I would re-sterilize them because that dry layer of verm for two weeks will have accumulated some debris and injecting could push it into the substrate but it is your choice.

Good luck!!!!

Im going thru this right now with sporeworks syringes. And no I didnt shoot them up when the jars were hot.  This is my second syringe in a row that is showing no signs of growth at all. The first one has been going for  3 weeks the second has been going for a week.  There is absolutely zero sign of growth.  Now I may not have masterd spawning yet but I know how to prep my grain.  Its not too moist or dry.  Now it is the first time using my homemade lids.  Which were made exactly to Noobies lid tek specifications.  The injection ports are from The Mad Season and the synthetic filter discs are from Mycosupply.  The filter discs are rtv'd over half inch holes, so there's definitely gas exchange.  And my incubator is not to hot and it has 12 half inch holes in the lid so there fresh air in the TIT.  So I truly believe that it has to be the syringes.  Because although I am not a master mycologist I have most definitely introduced the spores to a pretty optimum environment to grow in.

Thanks yall

hm, this is a tough one. Were the spores visible in the syringes when you got them?

Yes there were visible spores in both syringes.  Yes I know that incubating isnt nessecery but many many people still do it.  I have done it both ways and right now its the most kid friendly way for me to do it right now.  Incubating is fine as a you dont crank the heat up to high and I dont have it like that.  Also my TIT has lots of holes in the lid for fresh air and to not trap humidty.

I'd say its not a failure until you see something you DON'T want start up on the jar. Just be patient or knock up some more jars while you're waiting.
