A tip and more than a month of investigation by the Portage County Drug Task Force into alleged marijuana dealing in Kent has led to the seizure of more than 200 live marijuana plants, more than $9,000 in cash, two vehicles and the arrest of two men on felony drug charges.
The bust was the second such operation conducted by the drug task force in two days, with two other alleged Kent drug dealers arrested Thursday in the parking lot of a Franklin Township shopping center.
According to drug task force commander Pat Burns, agents raided 1128 N. Mantua St. in Kent — less than three-tenths of a mile south of Theodore Roosevelt High School — just before noon Friday.
There, agents found a marijuana growing operation with more than 200 plants, grow lights, potting soil and thousands of dollars in alleged drug profits, he said.
“It was a pretty extensive grow,” Burns said.
Two residents of the house, Bradley M. Stehney, 38, and Todd A. Flickinger, 51, were arrested and charged with one count each of possession of marijuana, both third-degree felonies. Two Toyota vehicles also were seized, as were items used for the cultivation of marijuana, Burns said.
Stehney’s only prior criminal record is a 1995 misdemeanor conviction for drug possession, while Flickinger has no prior drug-related crimes on his record, according to Portage County court records.
On Thursday, agents arrested Lorie E. Pittman, 47, 626 Virginia Ave., Kent, and Alexander S. Stone, 31, of 213 1/2 Lake St., following a one-month investigation into the sale of marijuana to undercover agents.
The arrest took place in the parking lot of the Meadowview Square shopping plaza, in the 2600 block of S.R. 59, Burns said.
During the investigation, agents purchased more than $2,400 worth of marijuana from Pittman, who was charged with fourth-degree felony trafficking in marijuana and jailed in lieu of 10 percent of $30,000 bond.
Stone, who also allegedly sold marijuana to undercover agents at his residence, was charged with fifth-degree felony trafficking in marijuana. An undisclosed amount of cash was seized during the bust, Burns said. Stone is being held in the Portage County jail on 10 percent of $35,000 bond, according to court records.
Additional charges against Pittman and Stone — who both have prior felony convictions — and Stehney and Flickinger are pending a review of the evidence by a Portage County grand jury.

I wonder why the government chooses to chase after the pot plants instead of supply its people with pot. Sounds productive to me, course, I'm not an out of touch politician doin' nothin but somethin' for his own ambition.
