Rye jars colonizing very slow
    #14346686 - 04/24/11 11:36 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Hey guys I did some searching around and couldn't really come up with a solid answer.  I have some rye jars that I knocked up with a South American strain MS syringe I bought from one of the sponsors.  I knocked them up 12 days ago and there not even 25% colonized, is there hope for these jars? They don't seem stalled just super slow.  Also I've been keeping them around 80 degrees, what do you guys think?

The thing is that a Multi Spore inoculation takes about a week longer than a Liquid culture inoc would have. So your not far off track with your timeline. Take about 24 days with MS.

Shake them and see if there is any gunk on the jar or mold on the inside. Seems on track tho.

If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need.

Was your grain totally dry from outside when you loaded them into jars?

I had almost the same problem times ago and got fixed when looking through my grain prepairing methods.

And yes, shaking would tell you straight away, if your jar is contamined.

some pictures wont hurt too.

As said, shake.

25% colonized after twelve days from spores is about right.

I appreciate the replies, I've been out of the mushroom game for awhile.  In the past when I worked with rye my jars would be nearly 100% around 2 weeks.  Then again I did only give my rye a 5 hour soak, usually I shoot for 24 hours, but I was in a crunch for time.
