Woo hoo! My first success with agar!

Unfortunately, I can't find my camera, so these were taken with my iphone.
Nice fluffy myc. This plate was growing slowly until I opened it up to cut out a wedge, and the next day it blew up. I'm thinking that the tyvek isn't quite cutting it for GE. I'm going to open it op in the GB tomorrow to let some air in. Is it safe to remove the tyvek and put in some polyfill, or would the poly need to be sterilized first?

There's myc in the middle and it looks like mic around the edge, but is that bacteria everywhere else?

Better get that untrusted cultivator tag out of your sig, I just got heat from a mod for mine. Only until the admins consider you to be untrusted, shall you be permitted to carry that label here.. at least as far as I understand it.

Hard to tell from the pics. The dark spot below the myc looks, er...icky. I would get the poor myc away from those bad, bad men. The others look really good

that one is definately contaminated, looks like a trich is sneaking in as well as the bacteria, if it's the same strain as the other two I'd just toss it, if you want the practice in cleaning a culture, get cracking
as for the polyfil q, I'd leave things alone until you sterilize another batch

I have spent many years cultivating my knowings too, you just haven't been exposed to them enough yet.
That's fine, you judge now, but you soon shall see that I am a vanguard for the coming age of profound mycological awakenings.

I saw that thread. You were really being a douchebag. My tag says UNtrusted Cultivator, and I make it quite clear in my posts that while I do my best to help people out, I am not nearly as good as those who have earned their TC badge.
You really need to get rid of the text in your sig. Not cool.

Nope... different strain. That nasty one came from a GLC I made from a rye jar that had stalled. The GLC made a few clean jars and then got cloudy.
All of my mycological time tomorrow involves my glovebox. It also involves ordering disposable petri dishes, because trying to see shit through the sides of a 1/2 pint is rough, especially when you're not really sure what you're looking for.

Are you referring to the myc on the good plate, the myc on the bad plate, or the strain of bacteria I'm currently cultivating?
The OR I got from you is currently a sparse 1/2" on agar. I suspect that my tyvek filters aren't allowing enough GE, so I'm going to open it (and all of my other plates) up in my GB tomorrow and let it breath.

I took a small wedge from that nice fluffy one and transferred it to a jar with poly in the lid, and then cut the rest of the fluff into 1/6 and used each piece to noc up rye jars. I then put the lid back on the jar, with a small ring around the now missing middle. I'm willing to bet that since I just opened it up and gave it FAE, it will blow up tonight.
The OR ms that was barely growing was also transferred to a jar with poly in the lid.
I cut the very center out of the bacterial Creeper plate and put it in a new jar.
I put all of my transfer wedges face down on the agar... is that right?
