I am thinking the same thing. The first, chunkier batch with the wavier caps reminded me immediately of P. subaeriginescens. This particular observation came to mind... The final batch is much more reminiscent of the P. ovoideocystidiata, as paduchah pointed out.
SWEET finds regardless joe! Spring actives FTW!!

I had my first success finding Morels this year, and ironically, they showed up when I wasn't even looking for them. After spending hours on end scoping natural spots I thought I might find them in, they finally reveal themselves within town, as I am walking to my work. They were popping right out of the red mulch that was surrounding some new development. Literally the next day I was walking to the bank and spotted a second patch which was sprouting over 2 miles away from the last spot - this time there were only pins popping up. But they were growing in the same red bark mulch. And next to new development.
SO... as much as it would rock to find some natural Morels, I personally feel they are just more elusive. If I were you I would be checking any new development/deconstruction zones around your city. Specifically development that occurred throughout the last year. And apparently there is a type that loves red bark mulch.... So best of luck with the Morels Joe - I send you Morel vibes in return for some nice Spring active vibes!!

That observation is ovoideocystidiata from my back yard last year. Rugs only grow in Japan and Java.

Probably, check the spore size, shape and gill cystidia.

Ive noticed that those scales are on the stems before I pick them. But once you touch the stem the scales disapear/fall off almost right away. ive seen both types with them too. The only thing that really makes me think they're different is the color of the gills. the thicker ones are much lighter. But that could be from them dropping spores? Which makes sense cause its takes alot longer for the spores from the thick ones to drop ive noticed. I dunno. They are pretty strange.
Alan is it possible if I mail you some caps that you can look at them under a scope? I dont have access to one otherwise id do it. Eh?

Probably not a good idea to mail caps .... Spore prints maybe... And watch to what state.... Just saying...
No one liked my wild guess of p. cyanofibrillosa? POTW mentions them in the PNW and relation to flood planes... Not seen them or ovids before... Looking...

We mail caps around all the time, it has never been an issue. Spores aren't enough for identification because the cystidia are on the gills. Mailing spores to any state is not a problem.

P. cyanofibrollosa lacks an annulus and fruits in the fall.

Thought the caps would be illegal, to have or mail. And thought spores are illegal in Ohio and California... My mistake...
Thanks!

They are, but no one cares if you mail a couple caps. They are looking for big bags of drugs.
The spore laws are misdemeanor laws and to my knowledge have never been enforced.

Thanks for the clarification.... I really try to stay with in the law, as much as possible... Have dealt professionally with USPS and DOT regulations, and agree the chance of being caught is near zero...
Right... Ohio - Idaho ... Same place...
