is health food agar agar the stuff that you save your strains with? or is this a different agar? I only ask because I see agar sold in science specialty shops and health food stores. they seem like such different places that I can't see it being the same substance.

They are the same substance. Agar agar is simply a gelling agent, for which both scientific and whole-foods crowds have their own applications.

you wanna remove that trusted cultivator tag from your sig, it wont help you get one any faster and can be pretty deceptive to the no0bs posting when no one has any idea who you are or if you're even worth listening to

No need to worry Prisoner, you can rely on the integrity of the information I offer. Besides, the fact that it's in my sig and not underneath my name denotes that this is indeed a self-served tag and not a mod-served one. At any rate, the tag's staying- it's a part of who I am and people should see it.
EDIT: Oh hey, just noticed you're a mod here. How bout you move the tag underneath my name then and I'll take it out of my sig? That way, not only will we both be happy, but people also won't have to question the reliability of the facts I offer and they can just trust my TC status and it's over and done with. Deal?
I mean to cause no shit-stirring here, only to shed light on the subject of mycology for those new seekers among us. You can check any of my 19 posts prior to this one to verify the content I provide.

the tag is earned and simply omitting the sig from a single post doesnt remove the tag from your sig, it still shows in all your other posts
better get to changing it

sorry about the derailment of your thread zzant, if you can get the agar agar in powdered form from a health food store or and asian grocery it makes preparing it much easier, it still might require a little experimentation but the basic measurements should be the same as with lab agar, agar agar also comes in fluffy 'brick' form, something I recently bought and used with some old material laying around and you can find it in a sheet form, both can be easily powdered but dissolving them can be a pain
