mycellium or fungus?
    #14344423 - 04/24/11 05:07 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Its my first attempt and growing and I've got one jar thats very white.  White growth started after two weeks and on the third week was looking more and more solid. I was still shaking it everday and it would break apart failry easily. I went away for three days and came back to find this.

I banged it like before but it was very hard to break apart. After alot of banging i managed to make it split apart and now it looks like this

Its grown on red millet.  Not sure of the strain but i know it comes from Indonesia.

Is it mould or Mycellium?  Any help would be appreciated.  Two other jars have gone green and I've thrown them out, one other jar has no action of any sort in it at all and this is the only other jar.

Thanks....

What species/strain is that you are growing first off. then we can go from there. Looks very cottony.

1) don't shake jars everyday
2) wild print?

I have no idea of the strain is the problem.  I was in Bali and took a print of some of the ones you can get hold of there.  I didn't think it would work but gave it a go anyway.

The shrooms were whitsh grey, heads about 15mm wide.  Bruised blue very easily.  The spore print was dark purple to black, more on the black side.

It did look a little cottony to start with but when i bashed it it all went and looks very solid now.

Wild prints are almost always contaminated, you'll need to clean it up on  some agar.

Yeah, you may very well be growing a mold farm very soon, unless that is one very agressive fungi.

Spend $20 & get a known strain from a sponsor. Then your sure of what you are growing.

Nope. Spend $1.69 on agar, grow wild cubes.
