Can pot make you dumber?

Now before you answer this let me say I know what you're thinking..."YOU F**CKING MORON!", "WHAT AN IDIOT!", etc... First of all I am not politically motivated. I think all drugs should be legal, so I'm not trying to spread or further lies about pot to try to keep public opinion in favor of it being banned. Second, I smoke pot just about everyday so that just about nullifies any theory someone might have that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
But I feel like ever since I started smoking pot every day (about three months ago, although I smoked occasionally before that) I've gotten "dumber" in a sense. Not just flat-out "dumb" in all regards, but just a sort of mental fog or laziness of sorts that I can't seem to overcome with any sort of willpower. I might be wiser or more insightful, but I at least feel less intelligent.
Has anyone else felt this way from smoking pot?
I am not trying to offend anyone or bring up Reefer Madness myths. Just trying to get information.
Thank You

Well I dont smoke pot, but I know a multitude of "Pot Heads" that from what I can tell have "Smoked themselves stupid". I think that if you walk around stoned most of the time, your body and mind is bound to adjust itself to that state. I think it would be akin to going to school stoned, learning would be inhibited. Except now its the learning experiences in life.
I would say that smoking pot doesnt make you dumber, but being consistently high probably does.

For the most part it's the personality and not the plant. But constant smoking for a while will give you that fuzz and some short term memory problems. However, this can be reverse which is why taking breaks is important!! And so you don't blow all your money keeping up with your tolerance. The only permanent damage that pot will cause is smoking before your brain is fully developed (around age 25) because it keeps parts of the brain from growing fast (though it does not kill brain cells). Moral of the story... Just don't abuse the plant and take breaks and it's all good.

Absolutely. The stronger the weed, the more I feel it. Of course, it's only temporary.

I know what you're referring too, and it's something I've been well aware of since being a daily smoker for a couple of years now. I don't by any means find myself "dumber," however I do find that even when I'm not high I have a slight handicap intellectually. Generally I would describe it as a lack of sharpness that I used to have, from situations like not being able to use the correct word in conversation despite having a broad vocabulary. Things don't seem to come as quickly to me as they used to, almost like a computer that is incredibly fast right out of the box but as soon as you start installing shit on it, it starts running slightly slower. Still completely usable and nothing to complain about but not quite as good as it used to be... That's how my mind has been.
I overcome it by just being aware of what's going on and reminding myself that if it ever becomes an issue, there's nothing keeping me from stopping smoking. I'll stop a few days before finals or a job interview or something where my wit and sharpness are essential to my success. Otherwise I'm the only person who knows how it affects me, and as long as that's the case I won't make any changes in my use.
With time you'll get used to it or get sick of it and stop, and it's definitely not permanent. Just a day or two of not smoking (even if I was just smoking once a day) and I'll notice that sharpness coming back.
Also, Piracetam has done a lot of good in "sharpening" my mind up and reversing some of the marijuana induced dullness.

I don't know about dumber, but back before I started smoking pot my mind was very clear, lucid, and very fast paced. I don't know if its cuz I smoke so much pot or because I don't stimulate my mind enough, but I've definitely been blunted a bit. It's not really a bad thing, and I wouldn't say I'm less intelligent, perhaps a bit slower to think things through, but nothing bad, just a tad bit. Still above average, thats for sure...

It's quite possible to have negetative effects. Especially considering the high addiction potential of cannabis.

Very well-articulated...it's hard to tell that pot has affected your ability to say what you're thinking, because that made perfect sense and is exactly what I meant. Not necessarily dumbness, but a lack of mental "sharpness" as you put it, is what I have been experiencing.

That's why they call it dope; because it makes you dumber than you already are.

I completely feel u. This is why I always take breaks here and there. I've been trying to take a 30 day break for like two years now, but I can't stop smoking unless something is forcing me. And since I already have a job that doesn't drug test, its really hard to motivate myself to stop doing something so enjoyable.
But I feel like I just have to see what life is like without my mind being in that pot haze. I've been a daily smoker since I started 5 years ago. My brain could use a breathe of fresh air and a reality check.
And its always hard to explain this to my friends. They are always on that "there's absolutely nothing negative about smoking weed" shit. Its cool tho. I'm definitely gonna start a break this weekend.
