Bleach in Colonizing Chamber effect germination?
    #1434308 - 04/06/03 10:28 PM (14 years, 3 months ago)

My buddy sprayed down a rubbermaid to store quart jars in with some bleach household cleaner. Then he filled it up with quart jars, but lightly sprayed the polyfill cotton filters with the same stuff while injecting them with spores. He then covered the semi wet polyfill with tin foil. Anyway, its been about 4 days and stll no sign of germination? Could the bleached polyfill filters have somehow killed off the spores?
Thanks

I don't think so. Maybe some bleach came on the surface but I doubt it would completely stop germination. Wait for another day or so...

you might be okay but next time i'd avoid spraying the polyfill with bleach. this obviously allows bleach to enter your jar.

I am sure they ll be all good, just be patient. There is no need to spray the polyfill with bleach, its best to leave it dry.

Yeah its really weird. He should've allowed the bleach to dry. The rubbermaid was pretty much humidified by bleach for awhile. He put tin foil over the polyfill and marked the strains but they are almost now unreadable ?! Hes guessing its due to the bleach. THe strains are Thai Lipa Yai, Mex, and Equador, and they were innoculated about 4 days ago and still no signs, He recently put a heating pad temporarily on top to bring up the temps. BUt still no sign. Think they will come through? Thanks
