Computer technology as we enter 2020, 2030 and 2040 guys, what do you think will happen? Its less than 30 years, unless something awful happens you're there in a jiffy.
Speculate!

Is it true that the current technology can support no more than ~12GHz processors meaning that new technology will have to implemented.
Also someone should replicate the human brain in silico

The change has been staggering no doubt, BUT - what has really changed over those years? Things have looked better on a flat 2d screen.
Just think about the barriers that are there to be broken....
3d visuals? Smell Function? Nausea feature? Scenarios that increase your heart beats per minute? Full on Virtual Reality... I suppose it we can go as far as our imagination can take us...

Where did you hear that at? Is that 12GHz per core? or 12GHz total?

Im not really sure but the main idea was that current technologies have a certain limit around that value. This limit is imposed by the principles used in their construction. One way to overcome this is to apply nanotechnology.

we can kind of imagine what will happen. Things like cybernetics and quantum computing and all that. Its hard to project out too far though.
In the 80s, who would have figured no one has a landline anymore? Who would have guessed the TV would be replaced by the computer as a compulsive addictive idiot box.

I think in gaming land.. I think you will be able to create games that are now state of the art, and CGI movies (Avatar comes to mind), yourself, without any help but the epic software and hardware of the time. As a result of this the world will be flooded with those kinds of artistic expression. Internet will go wireless or get its own designated cable, and be lightning fast. Terabyte-a-second fast.
The Internet will become 3D, not lists of websites but a fully interactive 3D place where you can move a 3D form in which you wish to appear through it looking for infomation, experiences, meeting people, creating things, buying, selling.. Websites become buildings, islands, space stations etc you can visit and walk through. You'll have your 3D figure and travel from a walk-in store, to a museum, and right into a first person shooter if you're into that. It has already begun.
