ID request
    #14341713 - 04/24/11 01:09 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat: Cow field, on and around patties. The field afoaf visited has been around longer than I have so I'm sure the areas around the patties are fertile.

As you can see, there are two types afoaf found: I believe they are pans and cubes (pans-left, cubes-right). I have yet to spore print or see any bruising, but all of these are small. The ones I believe to be cubes have nice nipple caps, and the ones I think are pans have black gills. Haven't spotted any oddballs, but would like a second opinion. Sorry for the bad quality.

EDIT: The black ones to the left have black spore prints. Still no bruising though :/

EDIT2: Well, my buddy already ate a dose... hope he won't die.

Sadly, they've all been eaten, and I got none. :frown:

I advised my friends otherwise, but they didn't listen to me. Should I expect to be making a trip to the hospital? I've done a lot of reading and haven't seen any look alikes that could be poisonous... just worried lol

Why did you give them to your friends before getting a proper bloody Id? Very unwise. Wait for a trusted Id'er

I wasn't lying when I said "afoaf." It's my roommate. He asked me to ID them, but when I said "it might take a minute" their impatient asses ate them... impatiently. I advised them otherwise, as I have already stated. Anyway, I hope everything goes alright. Would still appreciate an ID from an experienced hunter.

Did you hold onto any of the mushrooms? If by any chance they are deadly, then you need one of the mushrooms to show the doctors so they can give you the right medicine.

Yeah, they are dumb. And yes, it is a camera phone. Sorry, I'm not a photographer, just a mushroom enthusiast. I'll be sticking around them to make sure they don't die. Thanks for your help, if you can call it that.

Eating random mushrooms is a great way to get bubble guts and/or a nausea or both, mind you there are dozens of wild mushrooms that have amatoxins which can kill a person in a slow and painful way. Liver transplants aren't fun.

Your finds look like Gymnopus or Marasmius and Panaeolus papilionaceus.

I was thinking maybe Pluteus for the ones on the right. Just a guess, though.

EDIT: Though from the habitat, that sounds completely wrong.

It amazes me how many people eat random mushrooms :facepalm3:. Your friends probably got lucky this time, it doesn't look like they picked anything toxic.

If you/they can't tell the difference between a Gymnopus and Psilocybe cubensis you have a lot more studying to do, and shouldn't even be contemplating eating what you find.
