Agaricus lilaceps

Staining orange after a minute, under monterrey cypress, edible for most people.

Geastrum fornicatum

Under cypress.

Agaricus bernardii

Staining red after a minute, under cypress, edible.

Amanita pachycolea

Under pine.

Parasola auricoma

Agaricus fuscofibrillosus sensu auct. amer.

Under cypress.  ID'd by David Arora.  Different than the European A. fuscofibrillosus according to DNA studies by Rick Kerrigan.  Undescribed, needs to be published as a new species.  The most delicious Agaricus species according to David Arora.  Stains bright red very quickly, within 10 seconds.

Coprinopsis lagopus

Trentepohlia

A fuzzy algae which is orange because due to carotenoid pigments which mask the green of the chlorophyll.

Xylaria hypoxylon

Chloropyllum brunneum

The first Coprinopsis lagopus has a cool cap - you know what the term for it would be?

Beautiful pictures and you're a lucky sob for getting to hunt with him.

Looks like she got tired of wearing pants in the 3rd to last pic

I recognize the paths in GGP and it's close to the beach...Great shots and not really unusual, but those agaricus under cypress trees

'edible for some people you say' and that's kind of the key...You'll also sometimes find those under Eucalyptus in GGP but that's also only 'edible for some people, and that's mostly because of the oils in the cypress and eucalytpus..Both those trees aren't quite the normal habitat for edibles

what it is, is slight gastro intestinal distress, sometimes, with some people...in other words, some people might get a bit of a stomach ache, nothing major, lasts an hour

that type of thing...that's why the inner San Francisco Bay area isn't the best for choice edibles.....Still, to this day, that the SF Bay Area is pretty much only really good for psychedelics, unless you get out into the hills

otherwise it's fine photo opportunity, but it's not something anyone should make a habit of eating on a daily basis, that's for sure

maybe sometimes on special occasions, no harm done

btw, it also holds true for cyans that have adapted to Eucalyptus, originally planted and spread like weeds from Australia  over 100 years ago, but with the cyans, you're only eating 1 gram, maybe, not enough to cause stomach aches

these facts are partly from Far West Fungi commercial growers (John Garrone) out of Santa Cruz....It's true, that if you eat too many of them out of the oily coastal trees, you will probably likely get some pain in the middle

Did the man in the photos with the camera take the close-ups or were they taken independently by yourself? I especially like the first one of the Amanita.

No, Alan is fairly young.  It always amazes me that someone as young as he is can seem to know so much about nearly everything.  I think he's a cyborg.

shroomin garb, during the fall and winter I find myself getting so filthy when I get out there and shoot pics (I'm litterally laying in the dirt  and mud to get closeups) that I have a designated set of clothes and coat that I will wear so as not to mess up anything else.

Also known as a rosecomb deformation, according to Paul Stamets it is a deformation associated with chemical contact, especially petroleum based products, I often find fungi with this deformation close to roads where there is a lot of petroleum pollution.

Nice finds and photos Alan:cool:

Sometimes known as a "rosette".

Also known as a rosecomb deformation, according to Paul Stamets it is a deformation associated with chemical contact, especially petroleum based products, I often find fungi with this deformation close to roads where there is a lot of petroleum pollution.

Nice finds and photos Alan:cool:
