Casing material = yeild?
    #1433988 - 04/06/03 08:37 PM (14 years, 22 days ago)

does the material you use for your casing layer have anything to do with yeild.

menaing if i do 2 casings with the same conditions and the same everything but the only difference is like one is 100% verm and the other is like 50/50. would one give better results than the other?

Yes

The 100% verm is a basic casing layer...and gives poor results compared to the 50/50....or the 60/40 Verm and Coco Coir.

Why does the type of casing affect yield if a casing layer is supposed to be devoid of nutrional value?

the ability to hold moisture yet remain airy is what you want in your casing material to make the best casing mix(ph balanced of course)

In addition, I think that the other more fibrous casing materials give it a better place to form hyphal knots.

I would guess this has to do with aeration and other qualities of the casing material.
