Great post, Spongiform!:handth: Love all the herps and flowers you include.

Those are half-free morels.

Nice Jack-in-the Pulpit. I wouldn't have touched that millipede on a dare!:slug:

Millipedes are fine, worst thing they can do to you is tickle you with those feet.  Now centipedes, I know better then to touch.

Technically, those garter snakes are venomous too but rear fanged and mild.

Went out again today.

#1:

#2:  Found these at the base of trees, always down slope and the same kind of tree.  I suck at identifying trees so I don't know what those are but the bark is pretty distinctive.

3:

4:

Misc stuff:
Deer skull, box turtle, newt, & red back salamander and a purple flower.

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

Thanks.  I cut up that squamosus to check the consistency.  It was firm but not tough, definitely edible.  It's in the dehydrator with the morels.  I'm thinking I'll make a jar of dried mushrooms for convenient use in cooking soup, spaghetti etc.

Especially since I haven't seem to be finding a lot of any one species so far.

Wow spongiform, what a great thread! Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking? You are really good with handling wild things! Sounds as though you know your Snakes though.. really cool. I love how on your first hunt all you found was one tiny, minuscule morel, moved on to the half-free morels on your next hunt and finally continued with more success with each hunt! Congrats! Must feel good finding the natural Morels.. all I can find is landscape Morels right now.

#7  This was pretty interesting to see.  I'm not sure if the mushrooms at the base were related to the mycelium on the trunk  so this may be 2 different species on the same tree.

I'm curious what this is? Nobody really chimed in... it almost looks like the start of a huge Hericium fruiting? Probably not, as I'm not very familiar with Hericium sp...

Thanks again for sharing your awesome finds spongiform!

I've been "herping" since I was old enough to walk so I'm pretty familiar and comfortable with snakes, lizards, frogs, salamanders, turtles and the like.  Last year I accidentally found lions mane, maitake and Laetiporus and it's really encouraged me to start looking for stuff like that.  Plus I just moved out to the country in central ohio and have tons of places to look.  The vast majority of the pictures I've posted were essentially in my back yard.

I don't have a clue what that is but I'll keep an eye on it and see what kind of fruits emerge.
