Why are Black Americans less likely to swim than white people?
Which sociological, economical, or cultural factors can we shake our stick at?

Ever paid dues to join a community pool? It's expensive.
There are usually less pools in urban areas, because pools are large, take a lot of space, and are expensive (see my first comment).
Ever played hockey? The equipment can be thousands.
Socioeconomic factors shape our lives.

I think social pressure to live up to their expected "blackness" has a lot to do with it too.

Yeah I've been wondering the same thing.
Black people are much less likely to learn how to skate too.
Although, give them running shoes and they will beat us at any other sport...

I know it's sad, but this story is .
I mean, the one chick can't swim. Gets stuck. OK... But then 5 more people who can't swim go swimming after her?

I seriously think you have to be retarded to not be able to swim. All you do is move your arms and legs, I was swimming in the ocean by time I was 5.

BTW Black people don't like cats.
Or snakes either.
Can snakes swim? (besides the sea snake)

And even if I couldn't swim, I could float indefinitely until rescue.
