Do you have photoshop? If so, go to file -> save as -> set file type to jpg, and choose a lower quality. Photoshop calculates file size before you press OK, so you can find the file size you prefer. If the pictures aren't for printing, I don't think lowest quality is too bad. If you don't have photoshop, however, I'm not sure what to do.

You should be able to fix this right on your camera (for future pictures anyway). I don't know anything about your specific camera, but there's probably a setting on it where you can adjust the size of the pictures you're taking. Most digital cameras worth a crap have this feature. But yeah. High quality=Big images. Shoot for low quality if its just going to be seen on screen.

Actually, the Optomize feature in Photoshop is better to use. Also: If you want them to appear big but be small files, do not reduce the actual size (inches), but reduce the resolution.

That only changes their size should they be printed.. dpi on screen is (almost) always 1:1

You are incorrect. I have pics on my website of the same size, but different dpi.

The two pictures above are both 300 pixels square.. one has a dpi setting of 2000, the other has a dpi setting of 72.. as you can see they are the same.. that is because the pixelsize is used when displaying in the VAST majority of software (like internet explorer).. the dpi setting is useless for anything besides printing.
The 200 dpi image is only 0.3cm in dimension, while the 72dpi one is 10cm.. when printed (assuming the software respects the dpi info) they will not be the same size.
How am I incorrect...? You're not making any sense...

Okay I really meant PIXELS, sorry. But they are used wrong in the outer world- I just assumed everyone knew I meant pixels and not actual dots per inch. I should have said Resolution.
