Getting in shape (without going to the gym)
    #14339060 - 04/23/11 03:31 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Would anyone be willing to give me some tips for this. I don't have much spare money at the moment and am not looking to buy a weight set or a gym membership, besides running, push ups, and sit up what else is there for me to do to lose some weight and build muscle strength.

thank you for all answers in advance.

also bike riding

also hiking

competitive fapping (make sure to do both arms)

shadow boxing/weight bag

pick random fights with homeless people

walk to the store and carry your groceries back

get a REALLY heavy bong

Hand stands are pretty fun and can help build a strong core/upper body

Lunges...

jumping as high as you can and tuck in your knees and repeat as fast as you can (pretty difficult, will get your heart going)

Uhm.. pistol squats (squatting with 1 leg)

janda sit ups, NOT regular sit ups (go youtube janda situps)

uhhm.. if you have a park near you, you can go to the jungle gym and do pullups, they are always great to do

I'm sure theres more but I can't think of much right now. use youtube or google body weight exercises you can do

Check out the kettlebell thread!

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

Pull ups especially. Push ups, lunges and sit ups. Try shadow boxing for even just one minute. Youll soon realize how much of a work out it actually is.

P90X is hardcore. Pirate a copy of that and skip the dumbell routines if you don't want to buy them.

Or bikram yoga. Go to a couple classes to learn the routine and then download the audio walk through.

no money at all??

incline pushups
jumping lunges
jump squats
burpbees
hand stand walking
nose divers
high knees

find heavy objects if you can. see what you can use. pick them up. put them down. pick them up. put them down. lol.

you have a backpack??? put heavy books or something else in it. do pushups and other workouts with it.

you have any chains?? pull  a vehicle.. yes it can be done. start with a small car, it should be somewhat  easy.

you can do deadlifts with a couch. and squats with a weighted back pack

if you have a cooler, you can put stuff in that and do military press.

just be creative.

Weighted hiking is good. I used full water bottles in a backpacking pack when i was half assed training to cycle in South America.

You could make a sand bag using a kayak dry bag, the "seal line" brand.

I can't stress burpees enough, seriously, hardcore and painful.

Running, burpees and pullups would be a serious minimalist program that could make you ultra fit.

Push ups(diamond, wide arm, closed arm)
Sit ups-hit your abs when comin up each time. Think they make em stronger(dunno for sure just saw it done once so i started doin it lol)
Run, run run.
You can make protein shakes to help as well
In no time, you'll be like Rocky Balboa

I used to train outside of the gym. Easy.

Set obstacle courses up. Here is what I used to do.

What you need:

Two cinder blocks
One tire without metal rim
One heavy pipe or log
One rope or thin tree that is stable enough to climb

We used to set up a one mile path. We would run the first mile then pick up a cinder block in each hand and carry is as far as we could. If we couldn't carry them in our hands anymore then we would place them on our shoulders. After you make it halfway then you pick up the tire and run with it above your head for the rest of the mile. If we couldn't hold it above our head any longer than we would just hang it around our torso. But NO DROPPING IT. At the end of the mile we would climb up and down a thin tree or rope several times. Then we would do some pushups and up downs. After that we would take a break and prepare to do our Log training which was inspired to us by the Navy Seals. We had a old fence post and we would march with it for several miles. We would pace about 30 steps with it resting on our left shoulder and then we would say change and transfer it to our right shoulder. It was a good workout.

Another fun thing we used to do is clean and jerking cinder blocks from the ground and lunging them as far as we could. We would compete with each other to see who could heave them the farthest. It was really fun. I would clean them from the ground and heave them so hard my feet would come off the ground. It definitely builds core strength.

I fill my bookbag full of books and use it as workout equipment. It adds a good 40 lbs of resistance to my pushups, calf exercises, lunges, oblique exercises.

But I also have two 25lb dumbells and a 30 pounder. I would suggest u get atleast one dumbell, or u are going to have to put in a lot of extra work to find other objects to use.
