New Windows
    #1433904 - 04/06/03 07:41 PM (13 years, 8 months ago)

Share any info that you've heard about the new Windows, which I hear was leaked a few weeks ago. I've heard the new home edition is Longhorn, and the server edition, like 2000 is to ME, is 2003. I'm not sure which one is going around the internet, if any are at all.

Yeah. huh? 2003 Server is the server corresponding to WindowsXP, not the commercial OS following XP (which is codenamed Longhorn).

I'd personally advise people not to mess with the longhorn betas floating about, you're not going to find any amazing new functionality at this point and you are going to have to deal with pre-release bugs and performance issues.

All i've heard about it is ts going to be released in 2-3 years (USELESS FACT: the code name for Windows XP was Whistler, which is the name of a bar on Mt. Longhorn)

Slashdot has an article on how the key for 2003 server has already been leaked, so that means the program is out there too.

I've seen screen shots of Longhorn. Havent heard TOO much about it, other than its supposed to be even more customizable than XP, which is great cuz XP is customizable as hell.

Also there supposed to be a new task managing system? I think I read that. Its been a while though..

A keygen for serials was leaked, which will destroy Microsofts plan for Windows 2003's early April release.

longhorn is alright, i used the one of the betas a few weeks ago, still way to slow to even consider using fully, never got an error or blue screen.

When its complete then intend on having a directx 3d interface.  No SS on those yet, but if they do it right (roflmao) it could be sweet.

One of the nice things i liked, was at the top of folder listings they included filters, all you had to do was type in an expression and it would filter based on it.

About the slowness, they still include all the debug code in these early releases, so its supposed to be slow
