Two possible edibles for ID

This first one I'm pretty sure are wood ears. I can't believe that this is the third time already this spring they have fruited.

This one came from our compost pile. I didn't even see it until I started turning the pile over. It looks like an Agaricus to me, but I really don't know what I'm talking about. All I can say is that it isn't uncommon for us to toss store bought button mushrooms into the compost pile...
Spore print coming. I am located in the midwest.

You're right on both. If the Agaricus doesn't smell like ink then it's edible.

Hmmmm- smell like ink? I can't say as I know what ink smells like, but the mushroom smells like a mushroom to me and my better half:)

No smell. After a bit the stem has turned a cream color, but more tan-ish than yellow-ish.

Species #1 is Auricularia auricula
Species #2 looks like Agaricus campestris as Joie said.

Cool, thanks all. I can hopefully find time tonight to clone it and then tomorrow it'll get cooked up and tasted.

as long as its not yellowing i guess it could be a A campestris. you will know if its got a bad smell when your cooking it, i cooked an A praeclaresquamosus and you could smell it instantly ,but when it was fresh it smelled good.

Yea probably. The stem is broken off but it should taper at the base.
I'd eat it.
But only if it smells good when cooking, and not too much the first time.

I cooked 4 thin slices tonight and we could not detect any odd smell. My better half wouldn't taste it, but I did and it was delightful. I'm not the best at describing taste, but it was different/better than the store bought Agaricus.
Here's hoping it clones easily...
