So ive been playin around with Psilocybe caerulipes. I inoc'd a few grain jars at the end of last month. 3-27 to be exact. and a couple days ago i noticed what seemed to be a sclerotia. I didnt think caerulipes was capable of producing them. however im also thinking it could be bacteria. Just dont know.
heres some pics:

Yes, a bit. However a sclerotia forming woodlover would be freakin awesome!

I don't remember ever having bacteria show up in a fully grown, very healthy jar like that appears to be...and looks more like sclerotia to me. Perhaps a sniff test would help?... or just wait.
Great to see some cultivation work being done with caerulipes, good luck!

Probably just some weird sort of mutant fruiting. Doesn't look like contam infestation.

Its kind of off topic for this post. I was just looking around for Ps caerulipes growlogs and found Mushpuppets. I know that growing indoors under a controlled environment will cause fruits to look different macroscopically. BUT! does anyone think that those mushrooms look like Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata???? I was just looking through my wild pics and they dont seem nearly as big as his were and that annulus cant be seen on even the youngest of specimens that i've found... and in the recent pics of this seasons ovoids you most definitely can make it out...
I dont know if this was ever proposed but there you all go.

upon further investigation I found my answer. but atleast I noticed, right?

I have. If the gas exchange becomes restricted after the jar is fully colonized, the jar can succumb to anaerobic bacteria fairly quickly. This usually starts at the bottom of the jar, where there is the least oxygen.
In this case though, in the top two pictures - that does look like fruit tissue. Almost as if a pin is growing from the glass into the mycelium.

i dont think they are sclerotia at all.
i just think they are invitro fruitbodies.
is there anything to lead you to believe that are sclerotia and not fruitbodies, OP?

I didnt think Ps caerulipes was capable of fruiting on grain since the other woodlovers cant....maybe i should try to fruit it in a tray?

I think it is bacteria. I think those pustules will eventually crack open and start to seep pus. I predict the whole jar starts to fill up with yellow metabs soon.

Your hypothesis is most probable anonjon. There are little amber droplets in some spots.

DONT KNOW. But I transferred it all to a batch of sawdust/cactus soil. When I broke it apart it was just like any other woodloving species. Strong and thick, no sclerotia. Those spots were merely impressions from the "yellow metabs" anonjon was speaking of...No funky smell or anything.
