Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out. I do like Thievery Corporation, but my first impression of Tycho was it's pretty laid back and ambient. Could be wrong.

You like Boards of Canada, right? I'm sure you must.
But just in case, here is a song.

Boards of Canada is too uneventful for me. And like the song above, their songs convey, at least to my mind, mournful and sorrowful feelings. It's too spacey.
Also, Amon Tobin is definitely talented, but I personally don't find his music accessible from an "enjoyable" and rhythmic perspective. A lot of his tracks are discordant and abstract - so I can observe it intellectually, but I don't "feel" it.

Uneventful? Maybe you just haven't heard the right songs, because a lot of them are packed with really psychedelic effects/samples/etc.

There is no hook or any real bass part that is incorporated. It's too ethereal and ungrounded (in my opinion of course).
That same high pitch jingle, that sounds like a distant horn or flute and meanders through the song and accompanies the samples is similarly displayed in this baths song. But unlike Boards of Canada, Baths manages to make it sound both psychedelic AND rhythmic. There is substance, there's a core - it is capable of changing, but you can feel it in the music.

Boards of canada uses rhythm and bass quite effectively.
If I'm intoxicated and I hear this song, movement is completely involuntary.
This song too.
Fucking dank.
And here is a band I have been listening to rather frequently lately, Hidden Orchestra.
Dank and lush orchestral jazzy psychedelic floaty DNB mastery
MASTERY
This album is fucking perfect one end to the other

I've been listening to lots of Bonobo and Tycho recently. Both are incredible.
You should also check out Gold Panda:

That Benefit song was sick.
I also liked Hidden Orchestra.
I've already introduced my ears to Little People (while on methoxetamine actually). Good stuff.
Gold Panda is a hit and miss. It sounds very similar to Blackbird Blackbird, Star Slinger, and Toro y Moi - they all use the volume fades effect quite frequently to give a really hypnotic effect.
Four Tet and Prefuse 73 are the cat's pajamas.
Flying Lotus makes really complex music that is probably great for writing or making art - but I can't groove to it.

I like some Burial songs, though some of them can be a little too quiet.
I also enjoy some really swanky popstep like Modestep and Nero. It's glam and over-polished but they use it well.

i love nero, im into a lot of big dubstep names
i don't only listen to them tho and it's not sustainable music, its just good to throw a wobble around every once and a while imo, if you focus the music on it, the dopeness gets lost.

Yea, it's important to uphold a variety and diversity in music, I believe at least.
I'm always amazed at the depth and complexity of electronic music. Still, I know a few people who just cannot relate to it or fathom why we fall in love with it.
I have a friend who only likes organic instruments - but it seems to be a feature of his personality more so than an expressed interest in "acoustics" or technique.
