tripping and pupil dilation
    #14334655 - 04/22/11 06:31 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

i have been thinking about this a little bit.
pupils naturally widen in dark areas to find light in order to see things.  ligjht reflects off of objects and our eyes pick it up and we see whatever has reflected the light. the more light, the more you see basically so if our pupils are wide open in lit areas, we would be seeing more light rays bouncing off of things, showing more to look at.

and visuals are just like looking more closley at shit, so could it mean visuals are the images we cant normally see because our pupils arent wide enough to let in the more detailed light rays? and drugs widen them up.  also the wider your pupils are, the harder youre usually tripping, and the stronger the visuals are.

so wide pupils = new found light rays bouncing off of new found imagery
or is that just completely wrong.

completely wrong

if you go to the eye doctor and they dilate your eyes to look at them you will know right away why youre wrong.

pupil dilation doesnt make you see more in the daytime and give you "visuals", it just makes it painful to look at things.

I think there's more to it than that, since there are many drugs (such as amphetamines) which dilate the pupils but do not cause you to have visuals similar to psychedelics.

I do think that increased perception of light is part of what causes psychedelic visuals, though.

because the eye drops the doctor puts in dilate your eyes more than psychedelics do.

its dropped right onto your eye. and its specifically made to do that.

pupil dilation is a side effect of psychedelics. not an intended purpose.

I think it has to do with how the brain receives the increased light - optometrists' eyedrops dilate the pupils without affeccting the brain, so  the brain receives nothing but more than usual of the eyeball's normal, raw perception of light.

But on psychedelics, it is the brain which commands the pupils to dilate, and it receives the increased light-stimulus differently, in the form of visuals, rather than in the form of blinding light-sources.

I dunno. I've seen people on acid whose iris was practically invisible. I doubt that it's a question of degree of pupil dilation.

If you think about it, other drugs will dialate your eyes, but they don't make you see visuals. Like speed.

It's cool to be curious. Good for you for being curious about the effects a substance you put in your body has.
Thats how you stay safe, with knowledge.

Doesn't cause them but I wouldn't be surprised it "helped" them.

I must not Fear. Fear is the mindkiller . Fear is the little-death that
brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and
through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. ONLY I WILL REMAIN.
