fly agaric identification
    #14331968 - 04/22/11 06:56 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Me and my friends are interested in trying fly agaric. My friends have not had any type of hallucinogen before and I have had a small amount of lsd and a small amount of 2-ci, and they were both fun trips.

We found some of what appears to be fly agaric (in Australia) and we'd like to get another opinion. We aren't sure of trying it yet either, as I have heard bad things about fly agaric. Cheers

Habitat: Grassy, hilly area surrounded by trees

Gills: white

Stem: White slightly enlarged at base. about 3 cm

Cap: Red of varying sizes, the small ones are spheres

Location: Picked in tasmania australia

Sure looks like one. No way I'd eat it.

Take a look at the stickied thread at the top of the forum that explains how to post an ID request.
You'll get better responses with a better request.

A. muscaria is strictly speaking not a hallucinogenic. I wouldn't mess with it out of pure curiosity without doing some serious research first.

Jeeze, you aussies are just pulling these things out of your ass, I've seen like 5 noob aussies in various threads like, "Check this out (Amanita)"

They are supposed to grow around me and I've never even seen them.

And this is off topic, but I been wondering, why are there like 400 new posters from Austrailia and New Zealand? Did they just get hip to the shroomery recently or something?

:handth:

just to let you know the "trip," is a dreamy, nauseating and drunken. that's the best way i can describe it. if you never tried shrooms before, i wouldn't start with fly argaics.
just an opinion though.
do as you wish.

thanks people,

we have stored them in a "cool, dry place" and are going to leave them there until they are forgotten or we decide to try them. probably in a tea as i have read that making a brew is one way to make it more tolerable for the body. ive also heard that it can fuck up your liver / kidneys something fierce, so im very skeptical.

anyway cheers all

Did you dry the mushrooms? They will rot if you just leave them in a "cool, dry place" without proper storage preparation.

I have a pretty extensive background with this mushroom, and I find the hype surrounding it in such a negative light almost totally unnecessary. After reading every paper out there about them - the reason the mushroom has such a bad rap is because the information about it is so conflicting.

For posterity here is a guy eating it raw. :crazy2:

Based on my experience - rubbing the mushrooms with wet hands did not work, so getting it through your skin appears to be a myth. Smoking the dried skins did very little if anything. I have never fully tripped on these because I have a weak stomach, and always vomited. The smell of them nauseates me still! My friends that were with me have tripped quite hard, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

My suggestion is to cook them, that Shaman is probably a bit of a tool, but from what I know about the chemical reaction you are better to do it in your oven than your stomach! The best but most wasteful method would be to sit the mushrooms at the top of the oven on a rack and catch the yellow juices that sweat out of the mushrooms in a tray below. Then drink that, discarding the mushrooms. Sometimes it can be hard to make them sweat, so you can wash off the yellow liquid into some water in a frying pan.
