newbie question(humidity/rh)

My lady and i are growing some magic for the first time using the dunk and roll method. I have 15 1/2 pints jars that are almost colonized without any cantamination at all. super stoked. anyway, after i start the birthing process i will first soak the cakes in cold water for 24 hours. Then roll the cakes in vermiculite and place on foil/mason jar lid on top of soaked and drained perlite. Right? Inform me on my precedure if im doing it all wrong. But after the cakes are in the fruiting chamber i was informed to mist with spray bottle twice daily. Is this the best way to humidify, or can a large cup of water with an air stone from a air pump and a fish tank heater work in harmony to produce a warm humid climate. I need some ideas from all you pro myc's out there. ow yea. my fruiting chamber has 1/8 inch holes punctured on all six sides, then using perlite on the base. With my tuperware box already fabricated, can it be modified to be used if i find and/or choose a better method, being that ive already drilled all the holes. Also< my cakes are not colonized 100% yet,but very soon, so any prompt info is crucial
Thanks, Fredward and Ash

its ur very first grow?
just mist and fan manually.... bask in the glory of little baby mushrooms coming up... and post pics
over engineering tends to always leave me butthurt..... just stick by the primitive tried and true methods until you get this grow under your belt... then take some spore prints from your fruits, and do it all over again, maybe adding a little new touch of flair each time as you get more knowledgeable
just my 2 cents.... but either way, post pics and enjoy

Well said bro. Ive been doing this for 6-7 years, messed around with fancy lab equipment and everything but in the end, my real grows and well done grows are the most simple, tried, and true methods. Dont get me wrong, I like to build things, run trials and experiments and implement them but in the end, it comes down to how well you can do the basics without all the extra supplies are processes.

don't use a heater, for sure. It could get too hot, and it will be 100%rh, which is too much

Well said everyone. I just have one thing to add. Make sure you get your self a good hygrometer. You can pick a nice one up at a cigar shop or barnes and noble. Knowing your exact RH is crucial, especially for your first grow. Mist lightly twice a day until you see pins. After pinset if you still need the extra RH, you can mist the sides. Good Luck.

its not gonna give you much fae with just a few 1/8th inch holes drilled in it.
You want to make a shot gun fruiting chamber. 1/4 in holes on every side, top bottom and all the sides.

free air exchange. Sounds like u have some reading to do.
If you have questions, type them into the search bar. You can sit here for hours really doing that.
In addition to hole size, elevate your fruiting chamber and rinse off your cakes before the dunk. And after, before the roll.
Make sure to wait 7 days after 100% colonization, to make sure the mycelium has a firm foothold in the substrate and will be at maximum contamination resistance after birth.

I only have one thing to add, Lighting
its a fact that light and light cycles are really good for cubes! Use a fluorescent bulb like a cfl which operates in the 6500k color temperature.

i'll go ahead and disagree with this entire post.
ive gone through most of the tub-style grows without a hygrometer. and i spray my pins and fruits with water directly. mushrooms get rained on outdoors. and they do just fine.
in fact in my opinon/observation, water evaporating directly off of the fruit helps that fruit grow faster.

you can't let it sit on there though, you have to fan the crap out of it if you soak the caps
EDIT: There is this strange phenomena called wind and when it goes slow they call it a breeze and it works kinda like fanning but God does it for you. JK, I just have a dry sense of humor
I had many caps in the middle that hat spots because of water dripping off of my jar light, I guess I should have fanned more, but I am lazy and I pick them when they are very very small, most just barely breaking the veil. I don't like to have to eat 5 grams, mine are so potent that I ate 3 grams yesterday or the day before and I wigged out so bad that I told my girl friend I was dieing. The visuals were so intense that everything was blinking that had a pattern, glowing if it was still and one color, and growing if it had a uneven surface, like grass carpet etc. I have to eat 7 grams of some shrooms, especially if they are huge. Pick em small, they are more potent by weight that way. I might eat 2 grams next time because I am testing the same kind grown in zoo poo instead of coir. Will the extra nutes make them more potent?

depends how much fresh air your getting and your ambient humidity.
but yes standing water on fruits or in fruiting chamber is always a bad thing
BUT always evaporate standing water on substrates or fruits.
dont dab.

You can dab panning water on the sub carefully with a paper towel but never touch a cap
