How to keep the cap sterile while printing?
    #14330400 - 04/21/11 10:24 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

After reading the various teks, watching the necessary videos, and otherwise researching this topic as thoroughly as possible, I'm left with a question I haven't seen answered elsewhere.

While taking a spore print, how do you ensure sterility while moving the cap you wish to print from the FC to a sterile surface (foil) ?

It seems that one can take all the precautions possible to ensure sterility of the tools and work area, but what about contams riding along on the cap and messing things up for you?

taking prints is never 100% sterile. since it was grown in a non sterile enviroment.

TThats 1 of the reasons that when making up spore syringes we prefer to use the minimum amount needed. the more of a spore print you use, the more chance contam hitches a ride.

When transfering a cap from your fruiting chamber to glovebox for printing, do it in a clean room with no moving air. If theres no moving air, contams will settle.

The way i would do it would be to bring the cap into the glovebox via my arm holes. It worked pretty well for me doing it like the teks explained.
