Who else gets these? And do they seem to come in waves for you?
Right now it seems like the universe has turned it's attention on me. But at times, it seems I am a grain of sand among boulders.

Absolutely. The wave nature of synchronicities makes perfect sense considering all they are is the increased awareness of the underlaying quantum connection between all sorts of systems that we operate in. Every connection varies in strength and every system varies in the 'mass' of its overall energy. As you move closer to a system the connections increase in intensity and decrease as you move toward others, the transition from the peak to the trout is always gradual.

They did a study where a group of participants were given an unseen crossword puzzle to complete, and they tallied the scores of all the people. They then gave them a crossword that was already completed a day beforehand, and their scores went up significantly.
It seems like once the answers are out there, people just pick up on them. That would sort of explain how one person will figure something out, and then all around the world other people will start figuring out the same thing.
I'm guessing that's the way it works with small synchronicities as well. I notice them happening all the time.

So did that study actually happen, or was that a creation of Waking Life merely to present a concept?

Both, and I was so hoping someone would get the reference.
I remember reading about it but I can't remember where. In the same article, it also explained how another study group would visualize that they were flexing their right bicep as hard as they could for a certain amount of time a day, for a month or two. After the study ended, all participants had something like at least a 7% increase in muscle mass in just their right bicep.
