I think I found out why my monotubs are all getting contaminated...

My last three tubs have all colonized fine, but once I introduced them to fruiting conditions they would instantly get infested with trich. It pissed me off so much, but after reading up a lot I think I might have figured out why: my water bottle.
My water sits in a spray bottle and hasn't been changed for weeks. I didn't think water in an enclosed vessel would go "bad", but evidently this is a possibility. I created this thread to get some more feedback...do you think that your water can go bad, and how often should it be changed?

if its distilled water in a clean sprayer, i dont think that would be the problem.
what substrate do you use?

I keep a pan of water on my electric oil heater and I noticed that it has a few green spots on it. This just happened after 2 years of doing it this way. 1 gallon of water onlst a week but all of a sudden I got the trich growing. So I guess it can happen.

How do you pasteurize and for how long? Are you using coir? RR says if it contams before first flush its usually the spawn. I'm not saying its not the water but I would look elsewhere.
All of use at once. lol

I get presterilized/pasteurized spawn and compost from OutGrow, so unless their methods are faulty I would think it would have to be the water...

well if you keep getting contamination, and youre always using the same substrate, its probably your substrate.

How are you inoculating? In a glow box?
im not against outgrow but they sterilize there compost. Shouldn't you pasteurize it? Could that be part of his problem?

Hmm. I didn't know they sterilized instead of pasteurized...seems pretty dumb. Regardless...you really think it's due to the sterilized compost and not the water?
And i'm inoculating into the sterilized spawn bag and taping up the hole. It colonizes just fine (although a bit slow). It's when I put it into fruiting conditions that it contams.

try some coir next grow. if it doesnt contam, it was most ikely your substrate. if you do contaminate, then its probably the spawn. thats a good way to narrow that down.

So LC like RR said? It's your spawn man. Wake up.

No it's not LC. Spore syringe.

I'm inferring that it's contaminated Because of bad LC yeah. Just because it colonizes doesn't mean it's good. You can have bad spawn that looks fine.
When you get a trichsplosion on the first flush it means the trich was established in the spawn or in the bulk sub already at the time you mixed. Odds favor the spawn, tho it could be the substrate. But highly unlikely the water bottle because the trich has to be established already to blow up on the first flush.

That's what I thought just from reading the title. Bad LC, or bad spores. Plus why are you trying to do bags with spores anyway? Use g2g.
