Anyone have a high paying job that allows them to use with little or no chance of getting fired?

I'm no big time drug user or anything but I have a decent paying job for this area (+-50k). My biggest problem with it is that I have to work a minimum of 60 hours a week. I can get all the overtime I want if I want more money but they pop random drug test. I actually got the job because the last guy failed a random test. Like I said, I'm no big time user but I would like to be able to do what I want on my time off without having to worry about loosing my job over it. I have no intentions of ever going to work high on anything but the fact I can't even enjoy my time off every once in awhile really annoys me especially considering I work 60 to 70 hours a week and hate beer and cigs.
I know there are quite a few drug users on this forum and I just wonder if any of you have good jobs where you can actually enjoy your off time however you want without getting fired? Being self employed doesn't really count unless you have a realistic suggestion on how to have my own business considering I'm young and have no financial backing.

I am not in the situation you're describing (I'm only a part-time worker.. about to be out of college and in the "real world" - have zero clue as to the expectations i should have), but i'm curious as to what suggestions and replies you get!

What industry are you in?
It's kind of funny that your job can shape your personal life in terms of what you can and cannot do with your free time. I don't understand how people can have drug tests... it's a form of discrimination imo. How many people are tested against sitting on their lazy asses watching television all night drinking beer or smoking...when they ought to be convicted of hanging around a stupid crowd... if anything the drug testing you guys have should be transformed into a stupidity and common sense test... that would be more practical.
Drug testing sounds more like corporate covering up of employee liabilities - another reason to let go of someone they don't like.
I want to know what happens to someone who tests positive for drugs and is canned. Does this test go on some kind of report card? Is it something you must explain to the next interviewer for any job you apply for if they ask about your previous termination? Sounds as bad as a criminal conviction. Do various substances get treated differently in terms of how they affect your next job conviction? (I'm pretty sure heroin vs marijuana are treated differently)

Believe it or not, teachers generally get tested once (upon hiring) and that's it unless they are involved in an accident at work. Then workman's comp requires a test.
The pay isn't too bad, and there is a lot autonomy.

I am debating either MCITP or CCNA... or scrapping IT completely and going into offshore oil if someone is willing to take me on as entry level production. I have been doing help desk for almost 5 years... i come home upset from what i do every day... turnover rate is high... i apply to atleast 5 jobs a week elsewhere and come up with nothing worth pursuing fulltime... perhaps you can offer words of advice or guidance

I guess I have high expectations considering I went to college for 4 years and have a good 50k in loans to pay back. 50k really isn't very good when you work 60-70 hours a week, not imo anyway. Money might solve a lot of problems but its hard for me to be happy working 11hours+ a day 6 days a week. Maybe others have more energy or something but it seems like its all I can do to work every day then spend my day off cleaning up and getting ready for the next week of working. To me that isn't very enjoyable. Is a year of your life really worth 20k in the bank? Just an estimate of what's left after taxes, bills, and the cost of living. I only make 14$ an hour. Its sad that you would kill for that lol. Hell its a whole 3.50 an hour more than the jobs I had while going to college. Maybe I'm just not thankful? I don't really know but my biggest issue WAS that I couldn't even spend my free time how I wanted. I guess I fixed the problem by changing what I want to do with my free time. I still don't like that I can't do anything I want with my free time but I've accepted it. I still don't like my job but I'm not going to mess up my work history over getting high.
For the person that asked about getting fired over a drug test. I've never had it happen but there are jobs that I have had that I won't put on an application. If I got fired over a drug test I would rather make up an excuse for the gap in work history than try to explain why you got fired or why you won't give a reference for that job. The longer you work somewhere the harder it is to cover up if you get fired though. I guess that's my main motivation for making sure I don't get fired. I've had a hell of a time in the past trying to get a job after not working for a year but the last time I looked for a job before quitting the job I had and got offered every job I applied for. Work history means a lot but I wouldn't want to explain getting fired either. Its not that a drug test shows up on some kind of report card. Its the fact that you don't want to have to explain what happened at your last job or try to make up something to explain why you didn't have a job for the gap in your work history if you don't list the job. They are only going to know what you tell them as far as your work history but having gaps in it or giving out references that aren't going to put in a good word for you can really hurt you when trying to get a good job.

Opportunities available to me include:
dropping full time position currently and becoming a helper/apprentice to trades people for <$20 an hour...
slamming together my own corporation and selling services / consulting
get MCITP & CCNA and apply to all the jobs that require it (quite a few do) do you have either?
opportunities available in my personal network? they're mostly the kind i don't want lol

i have had several jobs and none have ever had recurring drug tests. all paid somewhere within your range. ask around. see if your college friends or anyone works at a laid back company. don't be afraid to ask. they will probably be happy to help if they can and companies often pay referral bonuses.

50k a year is like 2800 a month take home. Decent if you're single with no bills but set your bar for killing a little higher, man.

^^^ this, I make enough to pay the bills and have a little spending money but no time to spend it and what I'm able to save doesn't seem like enough given I basically work, sleep, clean the house and wash clothes on my day off to get ready for the next work week. I work to live and live to work. I either want more free time or I want to see that bank account go up quicker. My freedom is just worth more to me. Give me more freedom or more money. I will probably end up going back to college but its hard for me to imagine that I can't find something better with what I have when I know people making 150k+ that never went to college and just happened to know the right people that put them in the right position to work their way up. The job I'm working is going to top out at like 16$ an hour as my boss only makes 18-20 an hour and I. Know I'm not going to get more than him andd he's in his late 30's and never plans on leaving so waiting on that isn't an option. I'm leaving. Its just a matter of time.

Shit man, get a year experience and then bail to actually work for an oil company, not a contractor.
You can turn that 50k into 120k a year in a hurry, and with a 40hr week full benefits. Now, you might have to go to Alaska, or Libyia to work for them, but so what? In 5 years your loans are paid and you have a house.

My dad works medical billing industry for a private company doing auditing. The pay is good and you can do it (not his job specifically, that requires experience, but coding in general) with pretty much any degree if you get a certification. He's never had to take a drug test as far as I know, he works from home.

I make 52k base pay; probably closer to 60k with overtime. Decent benefits..yada yada. I can use with little chance of getting tested. The only people I've heard that have been tested are those who come to work inebriated and after an on job injury.
Oh and I'm in the auto manufacturing industry

Meh, I just got a good pay increase but even longer hours should be a good 60-70k now but at this point I'm wondering just how much money life is worth. I got up at 5am and home at 9pm. I sure can't find a better paying job around here but with these hours it wouldn't matter how much I made. I wouldn't have time to enjoy it. Maybe one day...for now, I'm going to bed.
