bulk substate trays
    #14328814 - 04/21/11 05:07 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Ok so I have some trays filled with mixed up spawn/high mountain compost, I wrapped them with saran wrap should I poke some holes in the plastic with fork?

I use tin foil but I put a few holes just for GE. Not very many though.

Plastic is what most people use.

I do, but just a few.
There are some that say no holes will help with consolidation & RH and others that say you need GE.
I do the in the dark and just a few small holes & it seems to work for me.
You should try what is right in your mind and if it works, then go on & try other things to help improve colonization & yields.
I'm pretty new at this & the holes are producing for me so I am sticking with it and slowly trying new things.
You should do the same.
Good Luck

As I said some say not to and others say to poke a few holes.
Watch RR videos and you will see that he pokes a few holes in his grows and as far as I'm concerned he is god when it comes to shrooms.
It really depends on the conditions that you are growing in. Such as my house is really dry in the winter when the heater is running most of the time so I have to mist more often then Joe down in Fl. where it is warmer and more humid.
You have to try things that work for you.
Nobody on this forum lives with you and knows your situation.
All anybody can do is recomend from their grows.
When in doubt, watch the videos.

I'd put some holes in those babies for GE.  I have seen people do 9 pin sized holes on a 9x11 tray.  A few more prob wouldn't hurt...

That should be enough. Due to the volume of air in most trays vs. volume of air in a monotub, most people poke holes for GE in trays. RR shows you this in his Let's Grow Mushrooms videos.
