crackin an egg on frozen pizza
    #14327432 - 04/21/11 12:05 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

i know i've done it before, and i know i loved it.  but i'm not sure what the ideal length of time for an egg in the oven at 400F would be assuming i want that yolk to be runny and awesome.

my pizza calls for like 17-21 minutes at 400.  you reckon i should crack the egg on top with like 5 minutes to go?  10?  in between?

btw, this is a great way to bulk up cheap-ass totino's pizzas.

edit: oh, and here's some food porn to make this thread a bit more interesting.

Should help.
Quote:

I put the pizzas in the oven for 12 minutes, and then pulled them out, cracked an egg on each one, and returned them to the oven for another four minutes. Four minutes, at 415 degrees, no more, no less. This is the perfect time and temp for an egg white to get firm but to leave the yolk runny but warm.

Same here.

An egg sounds gross. :mel:

Especially on a FROZEN pizza.

well, i put the egg on and set the timer for 8 minutes (after the pizza had cooked 10-11) at 400F.  however, that actually proved to be too short because much of the whites were still runny.

so i cranked the broiler up to high and put the pizza on the top shelf, then started fiddling with my camera in preparation for the pictures you see above.  i left it under the broiler for maybe 1.5-2 minutes, which i initially thought was too long.  but upon closer inspection, it turns out i still had some pretty decent runny-yolkiness going on.  just not on the egg i broke.

I don't really eat pizza but I may have to try this just because the idea is so bizarre. :O

How'd that thing taste?

This beautifully simple and brilliant!  :brilliant:
I am going to do this...
but most frozen pizza calls for 400 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit. Does it have to be exactly four minutes at 415?
How about four or five minutes at 400?

i rather like it.  you have to season the egg a bit with some salt and pepper.  and i find i like to try and spread the egg white out as much as possible.  but it tasted great.  i added a little extra cheese as well as some texas pete.  good stuff, brah.

turns out that the pizza with 3 eggs on top is approximately 1800 calories.  plus the 3 :pbr:s i drank with it, at 150 a piece.  2250 calories in a single meal.  i guess i'm not eating anything else today.
