"Can you come for an interview, again? Oh wait, there's the alien!"

I interviewed about a week ago for a job in a turkey processing plant (at least it's a job). When I called to "follow up," they said they were conducting more interviews and hadn't made a decision. Well, they called me yesterday requesting a second interview... WTF does that mean? I hate being scrutinized, but I felt like I nailed it the first time. Now I gotta do it again?... Bastards!

that happened to me recently. I was called for the first and then a second with the manager of the store. I thought it might have been a good sign, and they said they would call either way but they never did. But I think nevertheless it must be a selection process and it just means you're on to the next phase, so just go and give your best. And good luck

The first one is usually with some human resources chick doing a preliminary screening. Then the second one is with the person who does the actual hiring.
Or sometimes the second one is to fill out your tax paperwork and take a piss test.

You'd agree to pay someone money, train them, and such, without being fucking sure they're not retarded?
Or maybe you'd live in some kind of clan-type group where you know everyone so well that it wouldn't be necessary?

It only takes a moment to ensure someone can push buttons, use office supplies, or pull levers.
I know we like to pretend our jobs are important (opportunist insert: "culture is not your friend." Thanks, McKenna!) but the majority of them are very easy and require only minimal intelligence and energy expenditure.
It's best to laugh at the absurdity rather than justify it with an economical analysis.

Last job I interviewed for they flew me in for dinner, then interviewed me for 8 hours in shifts with 4 people questioning me at a time. Plus a 45 min presentation in the middle.
All in all it was about 12 hours of interviewing.

I did a 2 day interview once, the foreman gave me a test, I had to build a machine to perform a function, it had to be a simple design to form metal and required hydraulic and electrical components.. I failed because I used teflon tape because there was no pipe thread compound available to me, other than that they said it was one of the most efficient designs they'd seen because it involved rollers which reduced friction
the upside, the interview paid and while they liked the design they destroyed the stuff to see how well my welds would hold so it's not like I was being screwed out of the machines design

No. Well maybe, but it takes longer than that to see if somebody is right for a job. Place I work has a 45 minute psych test to apply online, then a two hour interview, which is partly in groups, partly alone, and involves creating and demonstrating items in real time.
For a minimum wage job.
Guess what? The process works, we're a great team of people and every day it's smiles and high fives and thank you, you're awesome.

Well, after Fridays interview, they hired the illegal alien I saw waiting for his turn when I left. Probably to save some money. The place is famous for hiring illegals. I am very discouraged and slightly outraged. My family's all but starving while this guy stays with about 14 other working adults in a $400/mo. rental, probably under my daughters stolen identity. Not joking either, we got a letter from the state last year implying that my 7 yr old daughter is employed at the same fucking place. None of our state, local or federal agencies will do anything to find out who is using her SSN. Anyone know if there is a "bombery." I wanna learn some new skills! Boomcology!

holy shit that seems like a whole lot of trouble to hire minimum wage employees. I just started a new job last monday. I sent a resume saturday, got a call saturday night to come in for an interview on sunday. went for the interview and was hired in less than 20 minutes and the starting pay is $18.75/hr. I guess if it turned out i was lying about all my skills they would have just fired me that first day on the job when they saw i didn't know my shit.
I think i got hired so quickly mostly based on personality and appearance. the guy who hired me, my boss, has a very similar personality and i think i remind him of a younger him. with hiring habits like that i'm sure he's been disappointed many times with past employees but he said he's very happy with my work and i surpassed all his expectations.

I'm pretty confused by this as well. I went in for an interview at Gamestop 2 days ago, I pretty much nailed it, had another top manager listed as a reference, told her (she's the head manager) the prior key knowledge I had about the company, took the upperhand, and she told me she'd be calling me to set up an interview with another manager to see what vibes he gets from me then she'd decide.
I'm REALLY hoping it's not because she saw my eyes glance at her boobs and I screwed up my chance. I don't even remember if I did but...

No, I just generalized in anger that any brown people working at this particular facility are probably not here in the US legally. As stated above, my 7 yo daughter's SSN is in use at the same facility and I promise she is not being forced to work to help pay the bills! I do not have any ill will toward any race, creed, color etc. I do not however think it is appropriate for illegal immigrants to compete for jobs in America (many I know get by repairing cars and reselling them, or many other "odd jobs.") I know, and am friends with, many Hispanic people. Even some who are here illegally. Though I do speak my mind when they tell me of plans to acquire stolen identities to obtain employment or credit. And I am infuriated with the company operating the facility, for their apparent prejudice on the side of illegal immigrant worker. I was very well suited for the position, which required some work in tight spaces and heavy lifting, for which I would estimate, the other candidate was too old.

I once lost my wallet. Few months later I found out a mexican family had stolen it and some 8 year old illegal mexican kid was using my SSN. That was really fucking annoying. I had to spent like 3 days going back and forth to the SS office to prove the SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER I WAS FUCKING BORN WITH WAS MINE.
but yeah 2 interviews are common. That's a good sign.

I'm also kind of ranting and venting. So don't take it so personally Doc. I have no idea who the other guy was or his status. I have reasonable circumstantial evidence to be infuriated at this company and at people who compete for jobs in our current market, who should not be. Being as circumstantial evidence is only good for my own justification of my anger. I would not injure this person, nor any officer or employee of the company and would most certainly not injure or even hold ill will against Hispanics (nor any other race). I am simply frustrated and angry. Not to mention scared about how I'm going to continue feeding my family, as our savings have recently been depleted and I cannot see any further options for employment or income at this point. I couldn't even afford to buy a balloon of heroin to stomp and resell, if I thought that were an option.

Sorry to hear they hire Illegals man. Being a cook in Chicago it happens to me all the fucking time.
Never mind the 12 years of fine dining experience . Last place i was manging they were paying all the Mexicans less then minimum wage.
I have been denied a job because I didnt know spanish more then once.
IMO employers should be servilely punished for hiring illegal labor like dragged out into the street and shot .
Until the unemployment and welfare rates are near 0 that is , Pay Americans to work in America not some mexican whos gonna send most of his wages to mexico.

I would like to take a minute to find the positive aspects of my life. I am grateful that I can come to the shroomery and not feel like a worthless piece of trash. Even though I have little to offer and almost no way to send, I have made trades and even received freebies from the good folks here. I appreciate everyone so much for their support and willingness to help out someone in need. Thank you all. BTW if anyone needs a hard working, intelligent and motivated employee, please let me know, I will go to the ends of the earth to provide for my family (though I would probably need transportation, lol)
