Just be sure to drink lots of water.
Fruit juices are nice if you're low on energy.

Nothing wrong with a little fasting to clean out your digestive system- give that damn system a break!

I just fasted for 24 hours the other day.

I highly recommend it.  You learn to control your hunger, like I would get mad stoned and house a bunch of food before, but after I did that, it like separates the need and want for food so you can control your calorie intake easier.

The only thing I did was drink a bunch of water throughout the day, some people say drink juice.  Your stomach will start growling but it goes away.  It's pretty much just willpower,

I noticed the next day feeling lighter and more clear headed.  I was going to do another day of it, but I just kept thinking about food ha.

Next time i'll probably do it for two days, and work my way up.

If there's anybody who knows about fasting and staying healthy, it's the member awakendone. You should definitely ask him some questions on this, when I stayed over at his house we pretty much fasted, had some vegetable juices, and some fungi thangs. Healthiest weekend I've ever had!

I'd recommend against physically exerting yourself while fasting.  Generally the idea is to give the body as much rest as you can.  Just my 2 cents

I dreamed about this topic last night. Weird!
Fasting is not harmful to a healthy person and has done wonders for some.
The first day is the hardest.
Don't think that eating a big meal before your fast will help you in any way, it only seems to make it that much more difficult.
Go for it.

I agree, you shouldn't exercise when you're fasting... the idea behind fasting for health is cleansing the body of toxins and cleaning out your colon.

There are other methods of colon cleansing that they require patients to do before prostate exams that involve photos of your colon.  24 hours of water and jello, no other food or intoxicating beverages/substances, and at least 4 bowel movements within the 24 hours, often times Fleet Enemas are used to produce the bowel movements and clean the colon out.

Increase the method to 48 hours with at least 6 bowel movements and you'll be clean as a whistle.  Start Friday night and End Sunday.

Yea I've experimented with fasting. I recommend trying just one day on water if your curious before you try extended fasts. After 2-3 days you no longer feel hunger, you're very alert and the body has a nice light buzz to it. I have the best sleep of my life when fasting for a few days. Most I've done on a water fast was 6 days. On day 5 my body began to feel real weak and decided to end it the next day. I wouldn't recommend going that long, not really worth it. I haven't done it in about 5 years.

As others said, physical exercise really shouldn't be done. Obviously going for a nice walk in the woods or yoga is encouraged though.

Don't over do it. Just drink what you need. The point is to gain control over your physical body and it's a great time to put the spiritual before the physical. It can be as enlightening as a good trip if you put the effort into it. It's not just about going hungry. . .
Be sure to wash your face often as you may experience oily skin as your body 'decontaminates'.
Spend some time in nature or meditating or whatever you feel led to do.
Avoid hard drugs (coke, opiates, speed etc.) and alcohol.

i hate wasting my time when it dosent seem like people are dedicated to a real fast. fasting for a only a couple days or a weekend isnt even worth it. it takes a good 2 days for the early detoxification symptoms to even present themselves. around day 8 is when the real magic starts happening. thats when the bowels start purging themselves.

i will swear by fasting! its one of the best ways to clean the body. however this is 2011 and we are fortunate to live in time when juicing fresh herbs and vegetables is possible. green juice fasting is far superior to water fasting! the juices require practically no energy to digest, which energy diversion is the whole point of fasting. and they provide tons of alkalizing minerals and nutrients that will actually aid the detoxification process.

i have never felt as AMAZING as when i have done extended vegetable juice fasting! i literally bounce of the walls with energy and cannot sit still. i have never taken as EPIC shits (i call it bowel purging) as i have after 8+ days of fasting.

getting your bowels cleaned of toxic fecal matter can literally change your life. this is key! also check into colonics. i will swear by them as well. spend however much it costs in your area. you wont regret it! your energy will improve, your mind and creativity will improve, you skin and complexion will improve, and you will thank me later!

anybody who claims that fasting is not natural is wrong! humans evolved with periods of food abundance and then food scarcity (freezing winter months for example). mcdonalds and taco bell everywhere is actually unnatural. most ancient civilizations understood and practiced the art of fasting. convienece is causing humans to loose touch with this.

it's rather simple, when the body is not spending energy digesting foods everyday. it will immediately begin to heal and detoxify itself rather amazingly! you would be surprised how much energy is actually spent on digestion.

and be aware of common detox symptoms. thick gunk build up on the tongue, skin breakouts, body odors, possible cysts, etc. all these will eventually completely clear themselves and the complexion will look great afterwards. oh yeah, and your thoughts may be erratic at first because the blood will have more toxins flowing in it. and the more extreme these symptoms are = the more toxic you are, and the more you will benefit from fasting. the world/environment is more toxic than ever these days.

i usually dont set an end to my fasts. i just go as long as i can, as it just keeps getting better! whats very important is that whenever you do end an extended fast to only eat very simple natural foods at first. i find fruits to be the best!

btw, all my best fasts were started unplanned. matter of fact an hour before this thread was started, i told sunset mission that i am starting another fast myself, because its already been 2 days since i ate anything solid, and last nights shroom trip gave me the inspiration i needed!

anyways im just randomly typing shit here. i could go on and on about the awesomeness of fasting. ive experienced AMAZING things from it! anybody who knocks fasting has either a) never tried it themselves or b) didnt give it enough time for the magic to happen!
let me know if you have any specific questions.

juice fast protips:
raw beet juice! this stuff is badass at cleaning the bowels. this stuff makes things move! dont be alarmed if you shit straight dark purple juice, it dose that! ive actually drank enough of it that even my piss will have a purple tint to it!
and if farmers markets are available for you get your plant material there, it makes a huge difference! they arent in season yet for me  during the season though, i am flyin' high! nonstop mr. feelssogood!
also drink lemon juice (buy a metal handheld citrus squeezer).
raw apple cider vinegar!
milk thistle liquid extract!
saunas! (sweat and replenish)
lots of clean water!

also, fasting or not, buying a decent juicer and using it, is possibly the best investment you can make healthwise. taking care of the body from the inside will surely reflect on the ouside.

hopefully this summer i will go all the way! at least 3 months on nothing but green juices and water.

Agreed, thanks awakendone your insight is appreciated and noted! I have only ever fasted for 2 or 3 days at a time and have never tried green juices but now I am inspired to follow through.
