Lost and Found [Re: Blue_Meanie]
    #14326242 - 04/21/11 03:08 AM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Hello All,

I tried putting my ID Request in the right thread forum but for some reason it only would show up in my journal entry- hence why I've put it here. If someone could give me a tip for posting in the proper and what type of fungi friend I found I'd appreciate that- don't mean to hassle anyone by parking this post here.

Have done some research and have a guess but would like a little more info from some pros as to what they think they are. Maybe Psilocybe aucklandii? Thanks for the assistance and feedback.

Habitat: Wood - Found in planting soil and some bark.

Stem: Brown and beige, blue when bruised . cm wide.

Spore print color: purple and blackish brown

Bruising: blue.

Location: Picked an hour out of Auckland

-Cheers

Nice find, this is an undescribed species belonging in Section Aztecorum, the most beautiful of all the Psilocybe species.

Thanks so much for that. I just started to get into mycology and this is my first find. What a way to start.

Have a good one.

Nice, don't forget there are many genera out there to be studied, many of which are much more interesting than the genus Psilocybe, especially if you start looking at the microscopic characteristics!
Have fun:cool:

Some of the bigger ones are quite dry and cracked on the top which i'm guessing is from too much sunlight?

Hey man, looks like you got a good find there. I live in Kapiti as well. i went on a hunt today, but I got some mushrooms. One i'm pretty sure isn't psychedelic, and probably poisonous. But some other ones which have orange caps, slightly pointed, darkish (possibly blue?) bruising, and stems about .3cm - .6cm. Maybe you might know something? Or if anybody else knows, please respond. Would be exciting if these were for real.

Mod edit:  Please see the hunting forum rules.

3. Do not ask what mushrooms can be found growing in your state or immediate area.  That information can be found here:  http://www.shroomery.org/8461/Which-mushrooms-grow-wild-in-my-area Also read the Mushroom Hunting FAQ.

7. No requesting or revealing specific locations.
Locations NOT allowed: Business names, government buildings, shopping centers, pasturelands, when specific directions are given to a location, or any place with an address. Use common sense about what might be considered a specific location. When in doubt, do the moderators a favor and just don't say it.

I found them in a fairly small garden with darker wood/bark chips and a few smaller plants. Its in between two buildings and would get a limited amount of sunlight but its also quite cold in the area even on a warm day. I only noticed these ones on Wednesday and only picked the biggest ones.
We are ment to get some rain over the long weekend so il go check the ones i left after that.

Hi everyone, was hoping someone could help me ID some finds this morning...
goldish/brown tops (some look like they have been there a while and have curled up at the edges)
similar coloured gills
creamy/white stalks
blueish bruising
found on a grassy verge

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to this, and I know you guys don't want to give me your good spots, but I just want to know....I live in West Auckland so would I have better luck going to look in the native bush in the ranges, or going and checking some of the larger, bushier reserves and or vinyards? Thanks, any help or hints would be great =]

I found a fairly large number of what I thought might be P. aucklandii in a pine forest today. They certainly look like the pics I've seen posted but I can't see any obvious blueing and I'm too scared to touch them in case the're poisonous - any ideas what I might be looking at?

Sorry I don't have a digital camera and my phone won't take good pics so can't post any visuals.

You can still touch them even if they are poisonous. Apparently it's also perfectly safe to taste a small amount of any mushroom as long as you don't swallow (wouldn't necessarily recommend it though).

Um, Canberra, do explain how exactly tasting a unknown mushroom would help to clearly identify it?

P.Aucklandii will go very blue inky when bruised. Pick one and see. takes a few minutes for blue to start, but after a few hours it's very obvious.

Thanks for that. I guess they're not P. aucklandii then as they aren't blueing - and I was so excited.
btw I was using "touch" metaphorically, haha.
Does anybody have any idea what they might be?
