aluminum foil...

a friend of mine did some serious pressure cooking the other evening....after taking off the aluminum foil that kept water from getting into the holes of her jar she inoculated the jars...

she was wondering if it was necessary to put the foil back on to the jars or if the verm was good enough to keep out contams???

Does she have filter disks? I always used filters and never found the foil necessary. For how simple it is though, I would do it. Just leave it kinda loose and air will get in.

did she innoculate them right after she pressure cooked them? hopefully not. You dont need the foil, but it doesnt hurt. You also taked the holes up with scotch tape right?
