Cloneing Store Bought Mushrooms?

The grocery stores where I am, have some nice King Oysters, and Shimejis for sale. Would there be any forseeable problems if I were to clone these to agar? Would this create problems later down the line, being that it would basically be a clone of a clone?
I could just buy a new culture, but if I can get these locally, that means I can spend my money on species that I cant buy in the store.

It will work but you might be close to scenessence and threfore reduced vigor. I have done it a few times with oysters and it worked fine but I didnt try to keep the cultures going very long. Give it a try and then start from spores if you can from your fruit. Good luck!!
-------------------- I need tropical cultures, ABM, V.v....!!!! Well things don't always look as they are and things can be misread and mistaken for what they realy are so don't read too much into what I say since I might be mistaken myself. And remember I rarely ever give a definate answer.

The mushrooms I find at the stores here seem to have myc growing near the base of the stem, I have considered trying the same, so I'll be taking notes.

After reading a lot of old threads, it appears that shittake clone fairly well. A. Bisporus, and oysters are often close to scenessence by the time they are in the store. Though I found one that used a piece of gill tissue from a store bought portobello to innoclate agar and it worked. It also fruited on straw/poo, with a pasteurized casing. I am definitely gonna try this. I like a challenge.

Just try. It is a cheap and simple way to get experience. I often cloned store bought mushrooms of all kinds including shimeji, oysters and A. bisporus and never encountered any trace of senescence. In case you want a fresh multispore culture of Agaricus species, using gill tissue is perfect, as it ensures reliable and fast spore germination. For me, cloning them directly on straw/poo in small jars works best.

I just recently cloned a supermarket shimeji. It was very slow on agar to start but finally (like over two weeks) I had a fully colonized plate.. I took some pieces of that plate to transfer to new plates and they colonized real fast. Haven't put them on grain yet, but I plan on it at some point soon - then to sawdust to see if they still will fruit well. I'm not getting my hopes up though..it was just an experiment. It may fruit well, it may not...
