I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum to post in or not allowed in order to encourage sponsor use.
Found a decent pricing for coir on amazon...with shipping, it ended up being only $3 a brick (for 10 bricks). I have yet to find a better price unless it's in bulk (like 40-50 bricks at a time). Hope this can help out some coir users on here:

PS if you can find a better deal, post it?

Iv used plant grade coir for oysters(Mixed 50/50 with coffee grounds) and had no issues. It was not that exact brand tho.
Also those ten blocks are 250G a piece while most pet grade blocks of coir are 650G as far as I remember.
The stuff I have used is pictured below: http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/2/OutdoorLiving/Landscaping/DecorativeMulchesConditioners/PRD~0594500P/The%252BOriginal%252BCocopeat%252BBlock.jsp?locale=en

hey thanks for all the links....damion5050, any particular reason why you think a grow-version of coir won't work as opposed to a pet-bed-version? Is there a difference like the texture or size of shred?

im using the stuff i posted the picture of, and im having great success. idk what damion is talkin about unless hes referring to possible trich added to the coir (which im not having any problem with) if you pasteurize your coir, which you do if following damions tek, you wont have to worry about trich from the coir.

This raises a good point. Shouldn't trich be killed by the pastuerization process? Though if its already in there, I can see how that would be playing with fire.

That's why I was wondering about it being a different quality shred...I figured pasteurization would take care of any nasties.

as long as it says "organic" on the coir, you should be fine. ive heard trich is only added to the gardening coir because it helps plants out.
10 tubs of sunleaves coir and i have 0 contamination.
