Collapsing spirals.

You know how globular cacti areole follow a spiral up the plant ? I have a problem where one line of the spiral collapses down onto the one below it. It causes cacti to look uneven on one side where it's collapsed, like the one side is pinched and never plumps out fully after winter.
I keep them dry all winter on a cold windowsill, is there anything else i should be doing ?
It's affecting a lot of my globulars that keep a tight spiral formation.
Thanks.

I had a couple do this when it got below 10C at night. I brought them inside and it seemed to have stopped it happening to the others. I think it may be the cold. Hard to say really, I'm only going by what happened to mine.
Those Two have since recovered by the way.

Thanks, that could well be it now you mention it. My Notocactus apricus has it this year, first year flowering,, .
It was ok last year but i took most of my plants away from the windows. I have my windows open year round because of the 400 watter so it does get chilly.

Nar they're noticeably damaged, the notocactus was a lovely plump thing last year now it's lob sided and deformed on one side.
That's not the first tho, i'm noticing a trend now with globulars. The ones with fewer areole don't seem to have the same problem.

It hard to see. Look about a third up on the right you might make out where it's pinched. the section below the pinch bulges out and the top leans over that way.

you got that right . I wish I could be of assistance but I only have a couple globulars and none of them have done this(yet). I keep them in the window but our house is ~70F most of the winter.

It's easier when it's in front of you. I could shave it,, . That's the best example i have, ones dead, ones recovering and another's only showing slight signs.
