The *Official* apocalypse discussion thread
    #1432044 - 04/05/03 06:31 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

All right, there's been a lot of discussions about the apocalypse all over the place these days, including the shroomery, so I thought I'd get a thread going where we could consolidate all these discussions and maybe have a thread with a little more order to it.

So, by the apocalypse I mean a whole lotta things. People have come out of the wordwork from everywhere with their own end of the world scenario. There are the alien crackpots, the bible revelations nuts, the third world war lunatics, the timewave zero/mayan new-age fruits, and not only are there more but there are those who combine all the prophecies together.. the uber-freaks. Let's have every post start with the poster's personal view of the aftermath of the Iraq war to about 2012 or however long need be. I choose these events because I think most believers in the apocalypse consider the war on Iraq to be the beginning of the end, or at least a sign of the end.

I'll start with my own view of the next 10 years. I think that although the date 2012 is pretty interesting, nothing is for sure. I read a book series that started with the title Spiritwalker by Hank Wesselman and in it he goes to a possible future where our civilization has collapsed and the survivors have become hunter-gatherers. I believe that theory less these days, but I acknowledge its possibility.

A friend of the family from LA who owns a summer cabin close to me here in BC is part of a spiritual group (cult?) who has an interesting leader/teacher. My friend is convinced that he can psychometrize (know the happenings in the "life" of an object) and says about the future that the USA will split into three different factions by 2014, although he acknowledges this isn't a certainty. Interesting.

I see that Iraq could lead to a much larger war in the coming years, but I'm still entertaining the idea that Iraq could settle some things down. The thing that just started making me feel paranoid is that the Iraqi government is still so cocky when seemingly the coalition has them choked almost completely to death. They've run a mission into Baghdad already. It seems like the end should be near and the regime should start bluffing like "We have nukes and we're ready to destroy Israel!" but they aren't. They're just sitting around getting their armies whooped and pretending to win. Maybe they're just completely nuts, or maybe they're planning something big.

I don't know, what are your guys personal opinions, and what experiences/knowledge do you have to back up your own view of the coming years?

With all due respect Dogomush, i'm not totally convinced that starting out your thread with name calling is the best way to generate an intelligent/informed response......that's just me though......

And for me! I like the way you think DOM.

Let's make the longest thread this forum has ever seen. Everybody spew everything you can think of about the Apocalypse at once. Visions, dreams you once had, poetry, philosophy, famous quotes, holy scripture, your predictions (though Yoda's the final word on this of course).

Anybody ever listen to Godspeed You Black Emperor!? If there is a soundtrack to the Apocalypse, I'm sure this is it. Wasn't there an X-Men villain called Apocalypse?

I think the apocalypse will feel like joy. I don't know why everyone is so worried about it. The end of all of this? What could be finer and more appropriate? If it's a nuclear conflagration (remember when they were keeping the people in line with that scare? no wonder they are all so fucked up now. don't let it happen to you.), that is unfortunate and sad, but hardly undeserving and perhaps best in the long run for all concerned.

I think the Apocalypse is going to be something entirely different, though.

How about ... YOU?

Well it seems the Illuminati have conspired against me to delete my post of predictions that I spent the last hour typing up. Stupid Back button. Damn you, hyperdimensional reality controllers.  Maybe I'll try again tomorrow when I'm in a sober state.

Those Illuminati are freaky man. I was reading yesterday about how they planned out world war three.

I think the Apocalypse is a pretty interesting concept. As a religio-biblico type dealy not so much, except to the extent that myths are interesting in general. Since I don't take creation myths literally, I don't know why I would do so with the destruction ones...

As far as the thing itself, we have been waiting for it for so long, and things have always felt like they were ending. I'm sure my great great grandfather thought he was among the chosen ones who get to oversee the extinction of our species. This has been a wet dream for us for a long time. But the world used to be so much smaller, just this flat little disc chained etherically to the sun or whatever. Now we know how big the world really is. I think our estimation of what it takes to wreck it is a hell of a lot more accurate now, and I think we are standing here not really noticing that by the time we were smart enough to know what it takes to destroy our world, we are damn near close to having built ourlselves the means to do so.

This apocalypse, which is a serious possibility, is the End as I think it has been traditionally conceived by most people. I know some people call it a Judgement.

We fail. Did you have to ask?

Does anybody know about the Hindu kalpa system of measuring history? it's really cool IMO.

I was watching X files the other week. It was an episode with Indians hidden in dunes with special EMF protection capabilities.

Imagine my astonishment when i heard this:

Indian: They are taking over!
Some guy: who?
Indian: The Aliens!! They will all come back when our calendar ends in December 21 of 2012!!

I swear i was really surprised to hear this coming from Hollywood. Illuminati must be having a lot of fun with all the mind fucking.
Two guys were sitting in the room with me, of course they laughed really hard when i tried to explain that the Indian might as well be right in his prediction.

Who gives a damn?

If it happens, it happens. Chances are we'll have no say in the course of events that leads to it.

Live each day like it was your last. Cliche, but sound advice.
