Which state are you in AIRDOG?
From what I remember reading they are mainly found in dense thickets of semi-arid forest. In Sinaloa, they're found in the areas known a "thorn forest".
These excerpts from Britton and Rose may be useful:
P. velutina Type locality: In hedges about city of Queretaro, MX Distribution: Table-lands of central Mexico. This plant is called by the natives nopaleta and cola de diablo.
P. diguetii Type locality: Near Guadalajara, Mexico. Distribution: Central Mexico. Common in hedges near Guadalajara and Oaxaca, Mexico. According to W. E. Safford it is know in Guadalajara as tasajillo and alfilerillo.
P. porteri Type locality: In Sinaloa, Mexico. Distribution: Common in the Cape region of the Lower and in the State of Sinaloa, Mexico.
P. spathulata Type locality: In Mexico. Distribution: Probably in soutern Mexico, but no definite locality is known.
P. aquosa Type locality: Guadalajara, Mexico. Distribution: In hedges about Guadalajara, Mexico. The fruit, called in Mexico tuna de agua and tasajillo is used in making a cooling drink and for preserves.

Im in colima, wich is just next to jalisco, so I went today to the spiny bushes kinda desert like habitat... but didnt find any....
there was a lot of opuntia and stenocereus queratoensis wich has mmm delicious fruits.. i munched some yeah but got a thorn in my finger hehehe...
Im going to search a different niche in that same habitat... perhaps a canyon with a little river will be more adequate=??

You should be looking in more forest like habitats--they are not desert plants like Opuntia and Stenocereus. They definitely need a shadier environment. From a CITES document the habitats for Pereskiopsis species are described as "tropical deciduous forests and thorny scrub medium at elevations of 600 to 1850 m" as well as "dry tropical forest" and occasionally "oak forest".

Need better pictures especially of new growth--maybe ex-habitat to give you a species level identification.
You wouldn't be considered a poacher. Pereskiopsis is quite abundant. Mexico pushed for it to be removed from CITES and was successful so its no longer considered endangered. Habitat destruction is the main concern for it.
Glad you found some!

Some parts of Mexico are pretty much almost topical if I recall correctly.

But it is an ethnobotanical...
ethnobotanical != entheogen
