AFOAF moved across country. All of his belongings were in a trailer pulled behind a truck. anyways, the temperature in the trailer would go anywhere from 85F to 32F. Right now they're sitting in boxes in the garage until they can be brought inside in the morning. it gets down to 30-32 degrees here at night. (no, bringing them in right now is not an option. people are sleeping and he doesn't want to wake anyone up.) will the myc survive the past few days of cold? some of the jars were inoculated with MS syringes about a week ago. will the un-devloped myc be ok as well? any definative answers are appreciated. thank you!

thats very cold. they certainly wont grow at that temperature at all. Im not really sure if its harmfull. My main worry is that your mycelium will get damaged if the water manages to freeze. water in the cells of mycelium freezing is bad news. dead cells.

hm. plausible argument. I'm going to bring them inside in the morning. it's like a solid 74F in the basement. I guess I'll just have to see if they bounce back. How long should I wait after no visible myc growth before i toss em?

once they get back inside to normal room temperature you should see growth starting again within a few days.
The mycelium can repair itself and regrow new networks, thoiugh this can add time.

Time i can deal with. wasted Time would suck. theres actually a jug of water in the truck right now that hasn't frozen so perhaps it isn't quite freezing anymore. Hopefully it works out. Thanks!

The jug of water, which is probably much bigger than your jars, will take longer to freeze because there is a lot more kinetic energy that must be released before it reaches 0 degrees C.

Should be fine. Plenty of people keep grain masters in the refrigerator to stall growth. The myc will recover and go back to work as soon as it warms up.
As long as it didn't dip below freezing, because I imagine having water trapped in cells, when the water crystallizes the cells would explode.

He said it gets to 30F which is low enough to freeze the jars and destroy the cell walls of the mycelium, but, if he put the jars into very cold to freezing conditions to begin with, it's possible that the spores are intact waiting to start producing myc when the jars warm up again.
Basically, if they started to grow and then froze, they're fucked. If they haven't started to grow and at least some of the spores are still intact, they should be fine.
I'm pretty sure that if you killed your jars with the cold, you could just make/buy another spore syringe and re-inoculate the jars.

No problem. Bring them indoors to normal room temperature and they'll be fine. I've left cubensis jars to colonize in a 35F to 45F garage and they were fine. It took about two months to fully colonize, but they fruited normally once brought up to room temp. RR
