So does it have a magnifying lense?
Can you go into a bit more detail on its design and uses?
Beautiful work as usual!

Do you view only slides through it? How do you make slides?

From what I am gathering it is something you look through to either take pictures or view nice vistas... Or I am thinking its like a Viewmaster that you view slides through. Slides for Tree in this case
Meat Hod.... where you at ho.. shed some light
EDIT: the video helps explain alot.

Well, the lens is a lot like a larger version of a door peephole lens. It makes the space inside the sphere appear much more expansive than you would assume from looking at it's size.
The function is just to hold and back light 17x17" photographic slides.
Viewing them inside the machine creates the illusion that you are looking at the real forest, which has been somehow captured and contained inside the sphere...
Each image is stitched together from 20-60 photographs, so they have extremely high resolution... this helps to retain the feeling that you are looking at reality, rather than a photograph.
It's basically my attempt to create an experience where viewers find themselves sucked into the forest. Cuz' who doesn't like being in the woods!?

It's basically just a big viewmaster, haha
And i make the slides from layering two inkjet transparencies, layering them together creates much richer colours and blacker blacks..
I then just frame it with a rough wooden frame made from 1.5mm plywood.

I have a concept for a "cloud room" that would be floored with pillows and painted and lighted to simulate being in a cloud. I think it would be interesting to incorporate small swiveling peepholes into other dimensions of earth into the walls of the could room.

Oh dear lord of creative goodness.
I like how active and productive you are with your ideas. Way to wrestle these things out into the "real" world to share.

This is my issue, translating my cool ideas, interests, talents ect.. into real world. or "being productive with them"
Realizing that most of the shit that is in my head all day can be realized, and that I can do it.. Now That is is a challenge!

I do that a lot as well man...
The trick is to keep thinking, until you come up with an idea that just has to be done...
You need an obsessive drive, and to get that drive, you need an idea that you're passionate about.
I usually spend a loooot of time thinking, before I start a project. I build it in my head, and test to see if it's going to work, then tinker with it... I have a pretty good idea of how materials will react, so building it in your head is a good start. Once you have a rough final image, you need to look at that final piece and feel good about it...
Feel that feeling of having it done, and know that when you accomplish this project in real life, you're going to feel amazingly awesome!
then furiously work till it is completed, a slow start and work ethic will only result in a loss of interest in most cases...for me at least..
good luck!

Thanks for the advice! Not finishing projects is a big problem of mine. I still have a hunk of apple wood that I widdled down to a rough shape. I went out and got it from a dead tree near my fence line, after you suggested apple wood for a pipe.
That was a few months ago and I have already started new projects since then, most still failed/incomplete.

but it is a new season, and the time for growth is now

hmmm, I wouldn't want to offend an artist by lowballing their work.
I'd definitely take it for $20 bucks. I mean, I can't see it, or touch it, or gauge its construction and tell how long it took. That's a completely random offer

$20 bucks? that wouldn't even cover the cost of materials, much less the "creative aspect" of said materials being manipulated into a piece of art.
but hey, maybe he's hard up for cash

Like I said, from a youtube video it's difficult to determine what the materials are and the construction of the piece. Were I physically present to look at the piece in a gallery it would be a different matter. I've also met plenty of developing artists who have pieces (literally) just laying around so they are more than glad to give them on the cheap.
At the right time, I'd probably pay a couple hundred for it, but typically I buy art in the sub 500 range. Meh, I didn't mean to offend anyone.
