Psilocybe sp. KKL01 - Update 5.6.. -- matured 1

For anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, those prints came from an yet undescribed Indian Psilocybe sp., from a thread here.
Now that a few prints have been distributed, has anyone tried growing them? I have two small test jars colonizing right now, in terms of speed and look of mycelium, it seems pretty similar to cubensis. Spores germinated quickly and mycelium is spreading with decent speed at 27*C. I guess they'll be finished in a couple of days and I plan spawning one of the jars, and leave other for later. My substrate will most likely contain horse poo, coir, gypsum and some straw, those mushrooms were originally found fruiting from manured lawns. And I'll case them with a thin peat/perlite layer when they're done colonizing.
Anyway, I'm interested if anyone else is trying to grow them, so we can compare notes, stories and mistakes. This is a very interesting species and would be brilliant to see them cultivated indoors! Maybe even get it identified! I'll update after I spawn them to bulk.
EDIT: I know you guys like pictures, so here are two jar shots.

That's it for now.

I plan on making some agar tmrw and starting it up. What are you using in your test jar?

I used my regular wheat/millet mix, I like it a lot, much better than either grain individually. I had a leftover jar and just shot it up with spores, the print was obviously nice and clean. Good luck with your attempt esquaredx!

I got one of these too, but I'm gonna wait and continue practicing with agar a little while longer. My first attempt as gone really well though.

I've not yet been able to get any spores of any kind to grow out on agar. I've got no idea what I'm doing wrong. Nice start tho!

FNG: Have you tried making your agar mix a little on the watery side so that the spores can hydrate and then germinate?

I've started to wonder if other people add drops of water to their prints to hydrate spores before transfering to agar or if they go right from print to agar. I do the latter.
I haven't researched this super hard, I decided to just do it. My z strain is working out really well with that method.

It is slightly watery, there's maybe a drop or two worth of water that settles on the surface of the agar from condensation. I've made a syringe as well and tried a drop or two that doesn't do anything. Does it need to be at a higher temp? I have a TiT I could put my petri dishes in next time I try if that would help.

I was aware of those finds but seemed to just miss out on the giveaways.
Personally intrigued by the woodlover found over there, if anyone can link me to works regarding that particular species I would be grateful.

I think this is what interests me the most about this hobby. I am just starting out right now so of course I wouldn't want to ruin a beautiful rarity, but I can't wait to journey down a path such as this. I think the idea of resurrecting old species, discovering what could be new ones, or falling upon an albino and cloning is just amazing. I took a look at the thread with this species your talking about and found it absolutely stunning. I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see how it turns out. Soon I will be able to be a part of the marketplace and hopefully I can get involved in these adventures.

I suggest you guys try just making a syringe and noccing up a jar, ofcourse if your print is large and thick enough. As you can see, mine was perfectly clean, and those prints are fresh so germination isn't a problem. It's kind of a myth that you must use agar with wild prints. If the print is taken in a clean environment and isn't left in open air for days, you should get clean growth. And even if there is mold in there, and you put it on agar, it will germinate and grow much faster than the mushroom, before the spores even germinate the entire plate will be covered in nasties. Same goes for bacteria, it loves agar, but if you prepare your grains correctly, mycelium will almost always beat it. As far as KKL07 goes, I got a tiny thin print, so I'll have to use agar for that. Btw, pouring hot agar over the spores seems like a good method for making stubborn spores germinate.
