textbooks that try too hard

You ever have a textbook for a really boring subject that just tries waaay too hardto appeal to our current generation/college kids? Seriously, this stuff bugs me. They try and pull you in by giving examples about things like video games etc. That they think you care about, but it ends up just coming off as immature and almost blatantly condescending.
like this today...reading a chapter in my business law book and these are two of the case examples they chose. Just who do they think I am? Haha.

that one's a dispensary, talking about how the government has the authority to seize medical marijuana based on the interstate commerce clause.

Write to the publisher. Tell them you prefer bland books that don't relate to the real world at all. lol

Yeah I see your point. It just feels like they're pulling on strings sometimes. And the ones that do this are most often the horrendously expensive books where you have to buy the latest edition, just so that the examples are current and trendy...

DEAR SIRS I AM MOST CONCERNED ABOUT THE NATURE OF YOUR TEXTBOOK. DO YOU TRULY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO ASSUME THAT I AM SOME COMMON POT SMOKING VIDEO GAME ENTHUSIAST?
Like that?
Oh and the next case example was about public nudity and strip club laws. That's porn videogames and pot in one chapter. Try and tell me that's a coincidence.

I actually find that somewhat amusing that they put those kind of case studies in there. I'm just stuck reading weird shit like this:
How the hell do you measure how much a humming bird pisses/shits per day?
That one kinda speaks for itself. Yes, that actually was one of the test questions.

I hate how they HAVE to include an ethnic name. Usually in GCSE maths exams. Such as, 'Abdullah has a bag of marbles...' or 'if Rasheed split his pizza with 5 friends...' Just annoying. I remember being in secondary and we would ask the teacher what these things were just to piss them off - 'Miss, what does Usman mean?' Shit like that. But yeah, stupid textbooks are stupid.

Yeah I guess I should count my blessings I don't have to learn about bat balls and hummingbird piss
And mongo, I know just what you mean. The tests are standardized for a specific culture anyways, kinda funny that they have to go to such lengths. Better safe than sorry though I guess. People sue for stupid reasons.
