Let me start by saying: "I mean no offense to the sponsors I mention in this post, they both have been very good to me". I started by making a malt/dextrose LC (clear, great colonization, no contams) with A-strain spores from Ralphsters. I then noc'd up a few mycobags (original) from mycofactory. All going great so far. I then did 3 minimonotubs with 50peat/50verm+gyp (no contams). Check this out (wish I could do pics), I have a huge mass of TINY mushrooms. I mean tiny perfectly formed mushrooms. They less than an inch tall, caps the size of a thumbtack. Hundreds of them!!!! And they are all breaking veil!!! WTF!!! The only thing I can add is my temps were kinda' low during colonization/fruiting, high 70's?? .. Anyone? It's actually kinda' funny lookin'..

PICS ! ! !
sounds like a fruiting condition issue... how deep is your sub... maybe you did not cultivate cubes... it has happened..

The lower temp's should just make them denser not smaller, other than that you've got water and FAE. Is there any chance it's dehydrated, maybe a dunk after that harvest...?

Well, the dig is 1-2" bottom, spawn, 2-3" top. I just doing a twice a day fanning (I do have 6 polyfill ports), and maybe every other day misting. --- I've done a few grows and have never seen this. --- I just picked one and on squeezing it stained blue, so they PCs. Effe it, I just picking them all right now and moving on. Maybe the second flush will yield a better harvest. I've just never seen anything like this. They are not aborts/stalls. They are absolutely beautiful "tiny" mushrooms.

OK. I will do what I can to get some pics of these 2day. But no promises. I picked a mess of them from one half of a tub. They are really heavy for their size! Still they are sooo tiny! I worried if I let the second half go any longer they are gonna' drop spores all over the tub.

This is most likely a water issue. This happens to me occasionally when my sub is too dry. Dunk, or otherwise hydrate after the first flush of tiny shrooms and the next flush will be good to go in terms of shroom size.

Dunno if peat is the same as coir, /shrug
these type of micro mushrooms were what resulted from my dog poo experimental grow, and the consensus here was lack of nutrition but if others have used peat with good results I'd go with water content.

rustycobwebs, Seriously? Dog poo? What an effing crazy experiment. What did you get for end results? I would think the amount of protien would send it dead. Very intersesting.

I need some more input. These are monotub, no chance of dunking at this point. And it seems every time I mist them, very little appears to be drowning them, so I've been sparing with the misting. But, they are growing in a huge abounds!!!! They just tiny!!!. I'd hate to place the blame on the purveyor of the strain.

it was also outdoors, and wasn't really very scientific. Much less than ideal conditions and questionable, contaminated cake. Broke that up with verm and dog poo.
In the corner of a sandbox the humidity got high enough to produce small mushrooms very similar to what you are describing. It colonized the dog poo partly, but the slugs got to it after about a week.
When I posted here about it it was predicted I had just wasted a cake, hence I've never tried it with optimal conditions but it's not a very good idea anyway.
I'm curious....do you usually use peat?

Yeah I usually use 50/50+, peat/verm gypsum. But I gonna switch to CC on my next tub. Good job on doing something different (dog poo). Opens me up to do some crazy. I have 4 pints of colonized LC. Maybe I squirt it all over my Gfriends couch and see what happens, LOL. I think I have a temp/FAE issue.

hahaha did u just do the standard uh, shotgun style mini mono?
In the winter we had to switch to doing polyfil holes, because of lack of greenhouse and low relative humidity. Subs were drying out quicker.
Let me tell you, this produced some monster shrooms compared to the shotgun style, but I prefer lots of smaller ones really and will be switching about to traditional style my next projects.

that's the biggest I've ever had I think, 100grams wet.
and if you look at the tray most of them are above average size, for me at least.

well there is your problem...you are using casing mix as a bulk sub! Peat and verm dont have any nutrients...

2-3 inch top? what are you talking about?
2 inches of casing mix, then a layer of spawn, then 3 inches of casing mix?
If that's the case, no wonder it's fucked up. Am I not understanding?

both the thin top and peat/verm sub would make sense there
